Director Colin Trevorrow Teases 'Jurassic World 2' Possible Story

The director hinted that the sequel to smash hit 'Jurassic World' might feature a story of dinosaur breeding outside the theme park.

AceShowbiz - Universal Pictures has already announced that "Jurassic World 2" will hit U.S. theaters on June 22, 2018 with director Colin Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Connolly once again penning the script. Speaking to Wired U.K., the director teased plans for the upcoming movie that would go beyond the theme park and would offer a fresh idea.

"[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island. That'll get old real fast...I feel like the idea that this isn't always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment," Trevorrow explained.

The director also implied that some particular characters might breed dinosaurs in areas other than the theme park. The original "Jurassic Park" had a subplot featuring Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) trying to steal dinosaur embryos for another company. As Dr. Wu (B.D. Wong) managed to take the embryo out of the park in "Jurassic World", people speculated that it would be Dr. Wu who might be the one to bring dinosaur breeding elsewhere.

"What if this went open source? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur? And Dr. Wu says in the film, when he's warning Dr. Masrani [Irrfan Khan], 'We're not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur,' " Trevorrow said. "I think that's an interesting idea that even if we don't explore fully in this film, there is room for this universe to expand," he pointed out.

Additionally, the director took the idea of nuclear power and compared it to weaponizing dinosaurs. "And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponize it and later on we found it could be used for energy," he said.

Trevorrow hinted that "Jurassic Park" director and "Jurassic World" producer Stephen Spielberg wanted to make "several of these movies." Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will return for "Jurassic World 2".
