AceShowbiz - The first photos of "Southside with You" have arrived. The photos give a look at Parker Sawyers as Barack Obama and Tika Sumpter as Michelle Obama. Written by Richard Tanne, the movie centers on the couple's romance.
The romantic drama takes place in summer 1989 in Chicago, where young associate Barack Obama woos lawyer Michelle Robinson. On their first date, the pair see Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing". Their date also includes a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago and the couple's first kiss outside of an ice cream parlor.
Back in 2014, the first couple recorded a video message that played ahead of a 25th anniversary screening of "Do the Right Thing" at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. In the video, Michelle said of her husband's selection, "Directed by a guy that not that many people had heard of. He was trying to show me his sophisticated side by selecting an independent filmmaker, and it ended up being a pretty good movie - really great!"
Sumpter and Tanne produce the movie alongside Glendon Palmer and Robert Teitel with Tracey Bing as executive producer. Directed by Tanne, "Southside with You" is expected to be released in U.S. theaters in 2016.
Sumpter was previously seen in "Ride Along", "Get On Up", "The Haves and Have Nots" and "Gossip Girl". As for Sawyer, he was last seen in "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" and will be seen in "Snowden", which will open in U.S. theaters on Christmas Day.
