Ariana Grande Accused of Stealing Concept of 'One Last Time' Video From Australian Band

Max Landis who directed Grande's video defends his work and points out that the Australian group SAFIA's own clip also bears striking resemblance to another band Injured Ninja's.

AceShowbiz - An Australian band is accusing Ariana Grande of ripping off one of their music videos. Following the release of the songstress' "One Last Time" video on Sunday, February 15, the Canberra-based indie group called SAFIA said in a Facebook post that the clip looked too similar to one they made for their song "You Are the One".

"This might just be coincidence but to us it looks like either the people at Ariana Grande's label or the film maker have seen our clip for 'You Are the One' and reworked the concept a little bit and then straight up stolen and copied some bits (ESPECIALLY THE END!)," the band told their fans.

The two videos do have a number of similarities. Both tell the story of the world coming to an end. They center on a girl who gets out of her car, runs through the streets and shares a hug with a man before a huge explosion occurs.

"Wouldn't be the first time uncreative talentless f**ks from big labels and/or big film firms steal ideas from small independent creatives who are trying really hard to make something different for a change," SAFIA added.

The band's "You Are the One" video was released last September and was directed by Jimmy Ennett, who has also voiced his opinion on the similarities. "It's a real shame because we worked really hard on a shoestring to pull that off and yeah it's just sort of all we have are our ideas in this stage of our careers - we don't really have a name or a huge label to buy ideas," he said.

"I'm not claiming the comet theme or the end of the world theme is by any stretch an original idea but it's more the execution of it and it's just those little things that are a little bit too similar," he continued.

Max Landis, who directed Grande's visuals, then took to Twitter to defend his work. "Coincidences are coincidences tropes are tropes But those in glass houses shouldn't throw meteors," he wrote, referring to the fact that SAFIA's video might also be a rip-off of one shot by fellow Australian band Injured Ninja for "Fallopian Tube Screamer".

"One Last Time" is the fourth single off Grande's sophomore album "My Everything". Its accompanying music video was released shortly after the former Nickelodeon star performed with Nicki Minaj during the halftime show of the 2015 NBA All-Star Game.
