The NBC News journalist reportedly will not appear on David Letterman's talk show this week after he was caught lying about his helicopter being hit by enemy in Iraq in 2003.

AceShowbiz - Brian Williams has canceled his scheduled appearance on "Late Show with David Letterman" amid controversy regarding his story about an attack to his helicopter in Iraq in 2003, an NBC News source confirms. The 55-year-old journalist was supposed to sit down with David Letterman on Thursday, February 12.

News of his canceled appearance on "Late Show" comes on the heels of announcement that Williams would take temporary leave from NBC's "Nightly News". He said on Saturday, "In the midst of a career spent covering and consuming news, it has become painfully apparent to me that I am presently too much a part of the news, due to my actions. As Managing Editor of NBC Nightly News, I have decided to take myself off of my daily broadcast for the next several days."

Williams is currently under investigation about his claim that the helicopter he was riding in back in 2003 in Iraq was hit by an RPG. In 2013, during an appearance on Letterman's talk show, Williams recounted the same story about his experience in the war zone.

The controversy surrounding his Iraq story has led to people questioning the accuracy of Williams' statements when covering Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005.
