Kai Hibbard calls the reality series 'a fat-shaming disaster' and reveals she had to do excessive exercise and diet that became detrimental to her health under the order of her trainer.

AceShowbiz - A former contestant of "The Biggest Loser" has come out with a shocking story about how the show went for an extreme way to make the contestants lose weight. Kai Hibbard, who lost 121 pounds after joining the third season of the reality series, said, "The whole f**king show is a fat-shaming disaster that I'm embarrassed to have participated in."

Hibbard told the New York Post that she and fellow competitors were often forced to work out for extreme amounts of time and placed on unhealthy diets under the order of the trainers. She said once she was chosen as one of the 14 finalists, she and other contestants were taken to "the ranch" where they were closely monitored and had to work out for between five to eight hours straight a day.

Another contestant who spoke on the condition of anonymity said she collapsed due to the excessive exercise. "I thought I was going to die," she said, "I couldn't take any more." But her trainer showed no sympathy and yelled, "Get up!" She claimed, "They'd get a sick pleasure out of it. They'd say, 'It's because you're fat. Look at all the fat you have on you.' And that was our fault, so this was our punishment."

The contestants were also put on a diet consisting of less than 1,000 calories a day from food provided by sponsors. "Your grocery list is approved by your trainer," Hibbard revealed. "My season had a lot of Franken-foods: I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray, Kraft fat-free cheese, Rockstar Energy Drinks, Jell-O."

Hibbard went on saying that trainers sometimes ignored medical advice. When the show's doctor prescribed electrolyte drinks, a trainer allegedly said, "Don't drink that - it'll put weight on you. You'll lose your last chance to save your life."

She said she and other contestants sustained major physical damage. She recalled, "One contestant had a torn calf muscle and bursitis in her knees. The doctor told her, 'You need to rest.' She said, 'Production told me I can't rest.' At one point after that, production ordered her to run, and she said, 'I can't.' She was seriously injured. But they edited her to make her look lazy and bi**hy and combative."

Hibbard herself suffered long-term health problems. "My hair was falling out," she shared. "My period stopped. I was only sleeping three hours a night. My thyroid, which I never had problems with, is now crap."

The other contestant said, "One of the other 'losers' and I started taking showers together, because we couldn't lift our arms over our heads. We'd duck down so we could shampoo each other."

On why she stayed on the show, Hibbard said, "You're brainwashed to believe that you're super-lucky to be there. I was thinking, 'Dear God, don't let anybody down. You will appear ungrateful if you don't lose more weight before the season finale.' "

Jillian Michaels, who was a trainer on "The Biggest Loser", left the show in 2014 reportedly because she's "deeply concerned" about the show's "poor care of the contestants." She later said in a statement explaining her exit, "In the beginning of the show it was tough love. You saw the tough, and you saw the love," but in more recent episodes, "you saw none of the relationships, none of the bonds that I build with my clients."
