DreamWorks Animation Teams Up With HBO for First TV Channel in Asia

The studio plans to launch a family-oriented television channel in 19 Asian countries during the second half of 2015 with HBO Asia managing affiliate sales, marketing and technical services.

AceShowbiz - DreamWorks Animation will soon make its works more accessible to fans in Asia. The studio has announced its plan to launch a 24-hour family-oriented television channel in 19 Asian countries, including South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong, during the second half of 2015.

Eric Ellenbogen, a DreamWorks International TV executive, says in a statement that "audiences in the region have always embraced our content." He adds that the channel will be available in most of the countries through pay television packages.

The channel, which will mark DWA's first foray into operating its own TV network, is part of the studio's effort to expand television production and distribution. For the new endeavor, DreamWorks teams up with Singapore-based HBO Asia which will manage affiliate sales and marketing, as well as technical services, for the channel.

DreamWorks' series "All Hail King Julien", "The Adventures of Puss in Boots" and "DreamWorks Dragons" which is based on hit movie "How to Train Your Dragon" will be running on the new channel. "The Penguins of Madagascar" which airs on Nickelodeon, however, will not be available on the channel.
