NBC halts production of the supernatural drama series after its initial 13-episode run, but the show is still in contention for a second season.

AceShowbiz - NBC's freshman "Constantine" will end its first season after 13 episodes. Deadline reports that the cast and crew were informed on Friday, November 21 that the production would be halted after its initial 13-episode order.

Though so, it's noted that the show based on DC Comics character remains in contention for a second-season renewal. The supernatural series will continue airing Fridays at 10 P.M. for the remainder of the season. NBC will likely replace it with "Hannibal" or one of its freshman dramas.

"Constantine" has never been a breakout since it was debuted in October, averaging 4.5 million total viewers and a 1.4 rating in the coveted adults 18-49 demo. Still, showrunner Daniel Cerone believes there's hope for the show to get a second season.

He tweeted on Monday, November 24, "The producers are confidant. Constantine higher ratings than Hannibal and CLIMBING. Hannibal got 2nd season. So keep watching! #Constantine." He added later, "We will return if enuf fans watch live 'n rewatch (stream till you drop). NBC wants our success and DC is beast. Won't say die. #Constantine."
