The actress' property such as her 1941 Oscar for Best Actress, paintings and jewelry will head to auction block in the coming months.

AceShowbiz - An Oscar statuette which belonged to Joan Fontaine is included among the actress' items which will be auctioned off in the coming months. Christie's said on Tuesday, October 14 that her 1941 trophy for Best Actress alongside other items such as paintings, furniture and jewelry would be sold in four auctions. Three of which will take place in New York between November and January.

The Oscar statuette is headed for the auction block on December 11 and it's expected to fetch between $200,000 and $300,000. Fontaine, who passed away at the age of 96 in Carmel, California last year, won the trophy for her role in Alfred Hitchcock's 1940 movie "Rebecca".

The sale of Oscar statuette is very rare because starting in 1950 the Academy requires Oscar winners to sign an agreement that they, their estates or heirs will not sell the trophy before offering it first to the Academy for $1. The Academy has not commented on the upcoming trophy auction.

Among the items, Russian artist Marc Chagall's painting "Vase of Flowers in the Window" will be sold in an auction in New York on November 6. It is expected to bring $400,000-$600,000. Another painting titled "Chrysanthemums in a Vase" by Lin Fengmian will be auctioned off in Hong Kong. Proceeds from the auctions will go to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for Monterey County in Northern California.
