Gracing the cover of Marie Claire's October issue, the former Nickelodeon star reveals her mom says the song called 'Higher' was 'great,' but she was too young to sing it.

AceShowbiz - Ariana Grande wrote a sexual song at a very young age. The former Nickelodeon star covers the latest issue of Marie Claire and says in an accompanying interview for the magazine that she penned the provocative song when she was only 14.

"I was 14 years old and ready to make an R&B album. I was like, 'Where is that Mary J. Blige collab? Where is that Natasha Bedingfield writing session? Where is my session with India.Arie? I'm ready. Let's go,' " the now-21-year-old star opens up about her early ambitions.

"I wrote this song called 'Higher', and the lyrics were too sexual, too mature," she recalls and then reveals how her mom reacted to the song after listening to it. "My mom was like, 'This is a great song, but damn, you're too young for this,' " she adds.

Grande, who's now a successful singer with two chart-topping albums and several hit singles, shot to fame for playing the adorable red-haired Cat Valentine on Nickelodoen's "Victorious" and "Sam & Cat". In the interview, the petite diva also talks about the character and how playing Cat affected her.

''People liked her and they accepted her and they thought that I was like her. So I used to pretend to be a little more like her than I actually was," she says.

Grande channeled her alter-ego on her first single "Put Your Hearts Up", which unfortunately flopped. ''I was like, 'Guys, there has to be a really distinct difference between me and my character,' " she continues. ''We did that with 'The Way'. 'I dyed my hair back to brown. I made out with a rapper in the video. I made the point I wanted to make. And I was excited to do so after so many years of pretending to be somebody else in front of a lot of people.''
