The trailer offers a glimpse of Carrie's baby and her intense relationship with Quinn, as well as sees her recruiting an asset.

AceShowbiz - Showtime has debuted the first trailer for "Homeland" season 4 to tide fans over the Sunday, October 5 return of the show. It sees Claire Danes' Carrie Mathison in Pakistan as CIA case officer to stop terror threats in the country following the pullout of U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

The video offers a glimpse of Carrie's baby, whom she left at home because "the place that she's in now is a place where you cannot have dependents," showrunner Alex Gansa explained. She is joined by Rupert Friend's Quinn, but it appears that their relationship is not in the best term this time.

There's also a look at Suraj Sharma as Aayan Ibrahim, "a medical school student studying in Islamabad whose path crosses with Carrie and becomes a significant person of interest for her." Mandy Patinkin's Saul Berenson is also featured in the trailer, telling Carrie, "Happy hunting."

Speaking at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills on Friday, July 18, executive producer Meredith Stiehm said, "Emotionally, [Carrie] has stabilized, and the mental illness that we've dealt with, she has now dealt with. She's going into this season very steady."

Alex Gansa added, "She's got a period of grieving to do in coming to terms with what happened at the end of last season and clearly that's represented and identified by the child that she had. The baby exists as a marker for her emotionally."

Addressing Emmy snubs, Gansa said, "I don't know how you can look at the last six or seven episodes that we did last season and not say that 'Homeland' is one of the best shows on television. The criticism hurt, the lack of an Emmy nomination hurt, but we're going to come back strong and try to get to the mountaintop again."

Corey Stoll, Laila Robins and Michael O'Keefe are among the actors added to the cast for season 4.
