On the surface, Ryan Hardy acts like he no longer cares about serial killer Joe Hardy but behind a door lies his secret obsession.
FOX released an extended preview to the second season of "The Following", including commentaries from cast Kevin Bacon and Shawn Ashmore as well as executive producer Kevin Williamson. The new season jumps a year after the cliffhanger finale where brutal showdown with Ryan Hardy resulted in the supposed death of Joe Carroll.
Season 2 opens with a murder on subway and the FBI suspecting the work of either Carroll or his followers. Ryan has recovered from the tragedy and leads a life as a teacher but is forced to assist the FBI when the murder points to his worst enemy. "Ryan is trying to get the pieces back together but he can't get away from Joe Carroll and Joe's cult," Williamson explained.
Ashmore said in the video that the relationship between Ryan and Mike is "strange to say the least" because Mike believes that Ryan still cares about the people Joe murdered. And he is right. Before the video ends, viewers are given the look of Ryan's secret room where he has been investigating Joe and his cult as a "hobby."
"The Following" season 2 premieres Sunday, January 19 on FOX.
