Elena is going to have a rough time handling her vampire transformation when "The Vampire Diaries" returns with its fourth season, according to Nina Dobrev. During a red carpet interview with TVLine, the 23-year-old beauty said, "I think she's gonna freak out. I think Elena's not gonna happy about it because she didn't even know. She kind of accepted death and told Stefan to save Matt, not herself."

Asked if she thinks Elena made the right choice by picking Stefan over Damon, the leading lady of The CW's hit series wisely answered, "I don't know if there is a right or wrong choice." She added that she respects the decision anyway and thinks that the decision could change at any moment in the upcoming season.

Opening up about her challenge as an actress on the vampire-themed show, the Candace of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" revealed it's trying to keep her two characters (Elena and Katherine) different, because both of them are vampires now.

Executive producer Julie Plec recently also discussed Elena's trait as a human which will be prominent after she transitions into a vampire. "When Elijah says, 'Your compassion is your greatest gift,' that was very much said as a reminder that that is who this girl is," the show's co-creator explained. "Her compassion is her gift and her Achilles heel. She is fiercely loyal, fiercely protective, and very, very compassionate to those around her in that she can see the good and the bad."

Teasing how Elena's new abilities will heat up the show, Plec gushed, "When all that stuff gets amplified, it's going to make her, hopefully, kind of a bad***, you know? Like, imagine Elena who is willing to stand up and fight the good fight for her brother and for her friends as a human - imagine her now with supernatural abilities. So in a fun way, it's like the birth of a supernatural heroine."

Elena's transformation may also bring out her dark side as Plec dished, "I think that Elena's dark side, so to speak, is actually in her deep, deep, deep connection to other people, whether they are light or dark. So now that these things get magnified, it is her connection to darker things and darker people is that going to bloom at all or is she still going to be the infallible heroine? I think that grief can do a lot to send somebody off their rocker a little bit, so who knows what she could go through as a vampire."
