Sharing his hope to sign the 16-year-old 'Idol' finalist, the 'Angel' singer thinks Jessica was almost voted off the singing competition because she's so good that people assume she's been voted for.

Akon thinks Jessica Sanchez's singing skill is beyond the standard of "American Idol". Having shown his interest to sign the 16-year-old contestant when he served as a guest mentor on the reality series, the R&B artist told E! News at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in Miami, "She's beyond the talent that's supposed to be there."

"I think she's overqualified, I really do," he went on gushing. "And she's only 16. Like, I've been around a lot of superstars. I haven't seen anyone at that age sing like that." Declaring Jessica as his favorite on "Idol" season 11 by far, the "Right Now (Na Na Na)" hitmaker said, "I know I shouldn't be saying this, but I kind of want her to get voted off so I can sign her."

Akon's wish almost came true when Jessica got the lowest vote two weeks ago, but the judges saved her. Sharing his thought on why such talented contestant could land on the bottom place, he said, "[People] naturally assume that she's been voted for because she's so good. So they chose to vote for someone else to kind of even the balance and she's not getting the votes."

39-year-old Akon had previously expressed his confidence on Jessica's bright future in music industry. "I knew from Day One, I said she's going to be a legend one day. I believe it, I really do," he said after guest mentoring the "Idol" Top 7 finalists.

Winning the American Idol is the dream of this young lady. We are hoping that she gets the title, although we are certain her future is already set for the music industry, we would like her to experience the joy of winning the coveted title she had worked for all her life. I do hope America recognizes her talent and those who do take time to vote otherwise the lines will be plugged by 9- 13 year old screaming for their idols, no offence but American idol winners have not necessarily proven that they were the best artist in the last few years. They were all men and there were contestants better than them. History showed that non winners and runner ups even do better in their career and has sold more albums the only ones who did justice were Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood among the idol winners, the rest have careers but did not soar as high as those ladies. Adam Lambert is a runner up but he is doing better than the winner in selling albums, Chris Daughtry had a platinum, Jennifer Hudson is even better than Fantasia who won the American Idol, and she has a grammy , an Oscar award and a steady career. So this goes to prove that change is needed to respect the title of American Idol , if you leave the voting to the little girls then chances are the good looking guys will win the title even if there are other artists better than them.

For me, although Jessica is really good, I don't want her to win because there is a great pressure to be successful if you win American Idol. It is better to see her as successful recording artist and not winning american idol rather than the other way around.

#Marie, Jessica cannot do whatever she wants after (if) winning American Idol. She will be managed and under contract for a certain period by the creator of AI

Akon, let Jessica win American Idol first and then you can sign her up. After winning American Idol, she can do whatever she wants. In my opinion winning on the show (AI) should be her highest priority at this time!
