Artist of the Week: Far East Movement

Burning the U.S. singles chart with 'Like a G6', Far East Movement are now looking forward to release their 'Free Wired' sound.

From just being a group of normal kids from downtown L.A. who used to struggle to make people take them seriously, Far East Movement have now turned into one of the Hip-Hop acts to watch out. While their debut album is yet to hit the shelves, the band are already on the move to take music scene by storm.

Representing different generations of Chinese/Japanese, Korean and Filipino backgrounds, they continue to climb up Billboard Hot 100 with their latest single "Like a G6", rising from No. 10 to No. 6 and now securing the runner-up position. This makes them the first Asian-American group to break the chart.

Humbled by their achievement, those boys from West Coast said to AceShowbiz in an exclusive interview, "It's unbelievable. We can remember when people asked us what we do and we say 'we do music' and they said 'wow your in the worst industry to be in, better have a back up plan' so we're extremely grateful to break out here and it's motivation to work even harder now."

From filling the dance floor with up-tempo "Like a G6", they are going to slow the beat in "Rocketeer", a pop ballad collaboration with OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder. One of the members J-Splif gushed, "Our next single is going to surprise a lot of Far East Movement fans in a great way. It's definitely outside the box for us, but we love to push our musical boundaries."

Overall, they just want to "rep the diverse music fan that hits up 3 clubs playing all different music [not just the up-beat one] in 1 night." So, here's to come the "Free Wired" album which blends all those hip-hop, pop, electro and dance elements they were influenced from the place they grew up. It is going to be released in the United States on October 12 and celebrated in a free concert at the Hard Rock Cafe Times Square on that day from 5 P.M. - 8 P.M.

"We had the freedom to geek out as ourselves and push ourselves to write songs that rep how we live but can be relatable internationally," they said. It's no wonder that they have such confidence for they have an amazing team involved in the album's making in addition to their true talent to create their own original sound. Bruno Mars, Snoop Dogg, Keri Hilson and Lil Jon are some of those contributors.
