Diagnosed with autism at an early age, Temple Grandin was home-schooled before she made a breakthrough in science at the age of 18 and went on to claim her PhD.

Innovator, author, activist and autistic "Temple Grandin" is portrayed in the new HBO's original movie made for television. Claire Danes steps into the role of an expert in animal science who suffers autism in her early age and continues to have anxiety up until she graduated PhD from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Grandin, as depicted in the film, is one of the leading speakers on autism, whose unique experience with the disorder led her to become one of the top scientists in humane livestock handling. The movie will be played for the first time on television February 6.

Supporting Claire Danes are Julia Ormond as Grandin's mother, Catherine O'Hara as her aunt and David Strathairn as the science teacher who encouraged her to develop the prototype of hug machine that helps decreasing anxiety in autistic person.

The real Temple Grandin is now 62-year-old and has written several books in livestock and autism. She has also appeared on TV shows such as "TODAY" and "Larry King Live".
