Beyonce Knowles Is Billboard's Woman of the Year

Considered as one of the inspiring artists, Beyonce Knowles will be given Woman of the Year title by Billboard in October.

On August 25, it was announced that Beyonce Knowles is the recipient of Billboard's Woman of the Year title. She was chosen for the honor due to her success, leadership and new ideas over the past 12 months which have inspired music business.

"Beyonce is multi-platinum artist and a multi-talented woman who clearly embodies the qualities of excellence and achievement that the Billboard Woman of the Year Award was created to honor," Bill Werde, Billboard's Editorial Director, said of what make Beyonce deserves the title. "She has not only influenced pop culture with her hit songs and signature dance moves, but has inspired women everywhere with her unique style, business savvy and dedication to charitable causes."

Beyonce Knowles indeed has been an inspiring icon in music industry. This year, she embarked on "I Am ..." world tour which was aimed to promote her latest studio album "I Am...Sasha Fierce". Through this gig, she showed her philanthropic side by giving away 2,500 tickets to families affected by auto industry crisis in Detroit. Moreover, she joined forces with General Mills Hamburger Helper and Feeding America to deliver 3.5 million meals to local food banks.

Beyonce will be handed the honor at 2009 Billboard Women In Music Event which will be conducted on October 2 in New York City. Beside celebrating the most powerful and talented women in the music business, this event is also held in conjunction with the Women In Music Power Players List issue, which recognizes the top female music executives who are leading the industry with their artistic and business vision.
