DFW Film Critics Association Named No Country 2007 Best Film

Being Film Critics' Favorite proved to bring advantages for No Country as the film once more won multiple awards.

AceShowbiz - It was no longer a surprise that "No Country for Old Men" is the movie critics' favorite. After being awarded four kudos by the SEFCA, the movie written by the Coen brothers once again received three prizes from Critics on Monday, December 17.

This time, "No Country" was hailed as the 2007 Best Picture by the Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association. Its directors, Joel and Ethan Coen, and particular cast member, Javier Bardem, each won Best Director and Best Supporting Actors awards.

Besides "No Country", in the categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Animated and Best Foreign Film, the winners are not far different from other critics awards winners. The "There Will Be Blood" star, Daniel Day-Lewis walked away with Best Actor, while Julie Christie snagged Best Actress for her performance in "Away From Her". In the meantime, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" and "Ratatouille" brought home Best Foreign Language Film and Best Animated Film respectively.

Came as a surprise was the winning of Roger Deakins who nailed the Best Cinematography prize for "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" Additionally, another unexpected winners can be found from the departments of Best Supporting Actress which was won by Tilda Swinton for "Michael Clayton" and Best Documentary which was given to Seth Gordon's "The King of Kong".

In addition to the standard categories, DFW Film Critics Association also awarded one particular film for being recognized as the best low-budget or cutting edge independent movie. The movie was chosen by 33 print, radio or television, and Internet journalists, and the 2007 Russell Smith Award went to John Carney's drama film "Once".
