Winners of 2009 Evening Standard British Film Awards Announced
February 02, 2009 01:02:07Trophies of the 2009 Evening Standard British Film Awards have been handed out on Sunday, February 1. In a private dinner hosted by Standard editor Veronica Wadley, Steve McQueen's dramatisation of IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands' last days, "Hunger", has been hailed as Best Film, beating out "Frost/Nixon" and "Unrelated".
While "Hunger" won the top prize, "Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle and actress Kate Winslet were shunned away from the kudo they were up for. Boyle, who was named Best Director by the Directors Guild of America on Saturday, January 31, lost to "The Reader" director Stephen Daldry, and Winslet, who won two Golden Globes earlier this year for her performances in "The Reader" and "Revolutionary Road" has to see the Best Actress title go to "Julia" star, Tilda Swinton.
2009 Evening Standard British Film Awards Announces Nominees
January 14, 2009 01:01:04Hot on the heels of the 66th Golden Globe Awards celebration last Sunday, January 11, British newspaper Evening Standard announced the nominations of the 2009 Evening Standard British Film Awards. On Tuesday, January 13, it was made public that "Frost/Nixon", "Slumdog Millionaire", "Hunger" and "The Reader" are among those vying for the awards.
"Frost/Nixon" and "Hunger" were both up for the Best Film title along with Joanna Hogg-directed "Unrelated". The two had also secured a nod for Best Actor category, Michael Sheen for "Frost/Nixon" and Michael Fassbender for "Hunger". "Frost/Nixon", in addition, had collected a Best Screenplay gong for its scribbler Peter Morgan, while "Hunger" gave its editor Joe Walker a chance to win an award in the Technical Achievement field.
'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' Hits Los Angeles for Premiere

The special screening gala was held on Mann's Village Theater in L.A. on Monday, December 8, evening and saw the streaming in of many Hollywood celebrities.
Several of the movie's stars attending the event included Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Julia Ormond, Tilda Swinton and Jason Flemyng. Furthermore, President of Warner Bros. Alan Horn and CEO of Paramount Pictures Brad Grey were seen joining director David Fincher and producer Frank Marshall on the special evening.
Coen Brothers' 'Reading' Burning Venice's Red Carpet at World Premiere

On Wednesday, August 27, evening, the dark comedy movie from Focus Features turned the festival's attention to the star-studded red carpet event held in the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema.
Among the film's celebrated cast ensemble making an appearance at the premiere were the four leading actors Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton. Dressed to impress with the two leading men wearing black tie tuxedos, they were joined by the geniuses behind the film, Joel and Ethan Coen. Apart from the cast and crew, others coming to the special celebration included Alice Braga, Claudia Cardinale, Claudia Schiffer, Valeria Golino and director John Landis.
Vanity Fair's 2008 International Best Dressed List Unveiled

Lead the pack of the magazine's list, which is the 69th this year, are individuals from a number of work fields, from politician to artist. Put on top of the list is Carla Bruni. Has made it to the prestigious list, the model and singer who became the First Lady of France in February is the covergirl for Vanity Fair's The Style Issue.
Also making the cut is Michelle Obama. The first lady hopeful is called by VF's editors Michelle "our commander in sheath." She's praised for "talking with women about work/family life balance" as her signature cause. It's her second consecutive year to be on the top ten of the list. Prince William's girlfriend Kate Middleton is the other non-celebs Best Dressed woman. Ivanka Trump is also on the list, because "she's the sorcerer's apprentice."
'No Country' Received Second Oscar, Tilda Swinton Named Supporting Actress
February 25, 2008 10:02:22After being reported earlier that "No Country for Old Men" got its first golden man statue from its acclaimed actor Javier Bardem, the crime drama film for Miramax Films earned another Oscar prize as the Coen brothers were presented with Best Adapted Screenplay. The director duo were given the award by Josh Brolin and James McAvoy at the 80th Annual Academy Awards' ceremony.
At the event held on Sunday, February 24 at the Kodak Theater, Joel and Ethan Coen were given the award for their adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel. By receiving the Best Adapted Screenplay honor, the brothers have garnered their second Oscar prize, the first was for Best Original Screenplay with "Fargo".
Winners Named for the 11th Annual TFCA Awards

Deemed the Best Picture, the Miramax Films release also picked up Best Director and Screenplay for brothers Joel and Ethan Coen while bringing star Javier Bardem the best supporting actor trophy for his portrayal of Anton Chigurh.

As if they can never have enough of publication, the Beckhams continue their invasion in the US. The British power couple, David Beckham and wife Victoria Adams, who have just moved to the country following his being signed to play for LA Galaxy hit the polling of Vanity Fair magazine's Best Dressed People in the World.
David and Victoria surprisingly win the top spot of the poll in the category of Best Dressed Couple, besting Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who are ranked 9th. Ashton Kutcher and wife Demi Moore make the list at no. 6.
Tilda Swinton in Contacts with "Benjamin Button"

Seems Tilda Swinton is willing to get herself busier this time. Recently reported to have taken a role in Erick Zonka's "Julia", the actress is now involved in negotiations to play a role in Paramount Pictures' high-profile project of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." Along with her, Jason Flemyng and Taraji P. Henson are also in talks to join the cast line-up.
If everything goes well, Swinton then will be billed alongside other two big names of Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett who both have collaborated in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu "Babel" which will open in theaters this November. The British actress previously appeared in last year's box office hit of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe."
Tilda Swinton Entangled with "Julia"

One more acting stint is on the way for Tilda Swinton to undertake. The British actress has signed up a deal to have a leading role in "Julia", a big screen project which will be the English-language directorial debut of French filmmaker Erick Zonka.
Inspired by John Cassavetes' 1980 film entitled "Gloria", pic is intended to be a tension-filled road movie that centers on a woman who gets involved in big trouble as she tries to extort money using a young boy as a bait. Production is expected to begin by late October this year using locations around Los Angeles and Mexico with Zonka also penning the script.
Swinton & Tamblyn in Stephanie Drama
October 19, 2005 02:10:59Drama is always attractive. Its plot also is quite interesting. So does with the forthcoming "Stephanie Daley." The movie, written and directed by Hilary Brougher from a script she developed at the Sundance Filmmaker Lab, will star Tilda Swinton and Amber Tamblyn.
The story of "Stephanie Daley" follows a forensic psychologist investigating a 17-year-old accused of infanticide. Swinton is set to play the forensic psychologist, while Tamblyn will portray the 17-year-old girl. The film is in production in upstate New York's Catskill Mountains.
Stars Joining 'Michael Clayton'

The story of the film centers on a New York attorney who learns that after 15 years of cleaning up his high profile clients problems, they can come back to haunt you, in what will be the last and worst days of his career.
Set to play the attorney is actor George Clooney. In the meantime, Tom Wilkinson, Tilda Swinton and Sydney Pollack have all joined Clooney to star in.
