All the pros, give way to the rookies, please as two new releases have triumphantly soared high in their debut to lead the weekend box office ended Sunday, February 11, 2007.

Strikes great despite a critical battering, "Norbit" fabulously exceeded industry observers' low-$20 million range expectations with $34.1 million in claiming the top spot of the chart, easily beating out "Hannibal Rising" which scores way down below at $13 million as the runner-up.

The Asian star is displaying its bright light in North America as Hong Kong filmmakers Danny and Oxide Pang score great success on the box office with their latest work "The Messenger." Revolving around a city family that moves into a seemingly serene sunflower farm in North Dakota, the horror flick has gloriously dominated movie ticket sales at $14.7 million to top the chart for Super Bowl weekend ended February 4, 2007.

The latest in a string of horror hits from Sony, "Messengers" marks the studio's seventh straight year of reigning the box office on Super Bowl weekend, becoming the second No. 1 debut so far this year for the company after urban dance drama "Stomp the Yard" that falls to the sixth spot this time for only taking up a fair amount of $4.05 million.

Looks like most moviegoers tend to have fun spending their weekend in theaters instead go for some gun-banging actions judging from their inclination toward "Epic Movie."

Exceeding industry expectations, the comedy spoof satisfyingly emerges as the top holder of weekend box office ended January 28, 2007, selling $18.6 million worth of tickets to soar above the solid $14.6 million its fellow newcomer "Smokin' Aces" has collected. Nevertheless, the gangland saga sure has made its way to push "Night at the Museum" one step down as the Fox release scores far below at $9.55 million.

One more action comedy flick that Universal Pictures offers to moviegoers. It's titled "Smokin' Aces." The story centers on an FBI agent hunts for a Las Vegas stand up comedian who has decided to squeal on the mob but, before he heads off for protective custody, decides to go to the casinos at Lake Tahoe for one last good time, drawing a crowd of assassins.

Has been attached to star in is Andy Garcia. The actress is set to portray the FBI director who tries to keep the cocky entertainer around long enough to testify. She will join other like Jeremy Piven, Ryan Reynolds, Alicia Keys and Ben Affleck.
