When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore,Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crimeresembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper-part ofa collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar AllanPoe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, alsoinspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe's writings as the backdrop forhis bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author's help in stopping the attacks. Butwhen it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer's next victim, thestakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his ownpowers of deduction to try to solve the case before it's too late.

REVIEWS BY CRITICS

“..the director who stitched "The Raven" together has no idea how to frame or compose a scene, let alone "grow" a film organically..”
by Kathleen Murphy [MSN Movies]
“..the literate nature of much of the dialogue is undercut by the plot-by-numbers nature of the story arc..”
by James Berardinelli [ReelViews]
“..does not settle on just one, preferring the usual moviemaking practice of multiplying effects until they pile up into a welter of breathless incident and preposterous exposition..”
by A.O. Scott [New York Times]
