AAFCA's Top 10 Films of the Year
January 03, 2006 09:01:57Focusing on the story about the prejudices of intersecting characters, "Crash" delightfully has been placed number one on the Top Films of the Year list compiled by African-American Film Critics Association (AAFCA). Also included in the list were "The Constant Gardener", "Good Night And Good Luck", "Brokeback Mountain", "Syriana", "Walk the Line", "Hustle & Flow", "Capote", "Batman Begins", and "North Country."
"The films selected for 2005 boldly reflect a bridge towards tolerance," said Gil Robertson IV, President of AAFCA, in relation of the selection of these ten compelling movies.

Saw 2 Is Number 1 Movie
October 31, 2005 01:10:59It's close to Halloween party and the time has just right for "Saw 2" to top this weekend's box office with a total gross of $30.5 million. The second best movie is new release "The Legend of Zorro," which taking in $16.5 million. At No. 3 is "Prime," scoring $6.4 million, ahead of "Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story" at No. 4 with $6.3 million.
Clings at No. 5 is "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit," with a tepid $4.4 million. Number six is "The Weather Man," $4.2 million, followed behind by "Doom" with $4.1 million at No. 7. Securing number 8 to 10 in succession is "North Country," $3.7 million; "The Fog," $3.3 million; and "Flightplan," $2.6 million.

'Doom' Bloom at Box Office
October 24, 2005 02:10:15This weekend's box office is "Doom." The movie, adapted from the sci-fi video game, debuts atop at box office, scoring $15.4 million in ticket sales in its first three days. Enjoy the second success is "Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story," which earns $9.3 million, ahead of "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" at No. 3 with $8.7 million, and "The Fog" at No. 4 with $7.3 million.
The Warner Bros. release "North Country" secures the 5th place with only $6.5 million, followed right behind at No. 6 by "Elizabethtown," which taking in $5.7 million. In the meantime, "Flightplan" takes another $4.7 million to place at No. 7, while "In Her Shoes" taking in $3.9 million to place at No. 8. Cling at 9th position is "A History of Violence" with $2.7 million and finishing this weekend's Top 10 is "Two for the Money" with $2.4 million.

Theron Heading North for an Oscar
September 13, 2005 11:09:54Oscar means everything that Academy Award winners, Charlize Theron and Gwyneth Paltrow, both willingly portrayed unglamorous roles at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, promoting the type of issue-oriented dramas traditionally loved by Oscar voters. As for Theron, she starred in Niki Caro direction, titled "North Country." It is based on the story of the first major successful sexual harassment case in the United States.
Played a single mother who rallies women workers to rise above the abuse they face at a local mining company, Theron co-starred with Frances McDormand, Sissy Spacek, and Woody Harrelson. Whereas, Paltrow stars in "Proof," based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Auburn. She portrays a young woman who is struggling with the fine line between genius and madness and has to wrestle with the possibility that she might inherit the madness of her mentally ill father, a brilliant mathematician. Paltrow has, for the screen performance, reunited with director John Madden.
