"Goya's Ghosts" Passes Theater Doors This Summer
February 14, 2007 01:02:53Soon "Goya's Ghosts" will haunt every theater in North America. The Milos Forman-directed drama has already been poised to come out this summer under Samuel Goldwyn Films banner following the company's acquisition to the film's distribution rights.
"'Ghosts' is a love story and a violent political story and a wonderful woman's story about a fascinating period in history and the effect of the Inquisition's lives as seen through the eyes of Goya," Samuel Goldwyn Jr., CEO of Samuel Goldwyn Films, remarked. Named the film "Goya's Ghosts," it tells the story of the last years of the Spanish Inquisition, when the Church tortured and executed suspected Jews, as told by the painter.
Has been attached to star in is Javier Bardem, Natalie Portman and Stellan Skarsgard. Portman is set to portray Goya's muse Ines, falsely accused of heresy. Bardem will play a sinister monk, Brother Lorenzo, while Skarsgard will play the painter role.

The movie was excellent on all counts. The plot however did not follow Goya's life enough, as it did Lorenzo's and Ines. The ending was tragic and illustrates Lorenzo's final concession to this God and his finding true absolution in death for his sins.
