The Golden Compass Scores Gold at Domestic Box Office
December 10, 2007 03:12:43Boasting starry cast, impressive special effects, and adventurous story, New Line Cinema's "The Golden Compass" found its way to go straight to the top place of weekend U.S. Box office after opening at $25.8 million on Friday, December 7, 2007.
The number the fantasy flick raked in, however, was way below expectation as the studio had hoped the movie to collect between $30 million and $40 million during its first three days. Pic, on the other hand, hit big in international market, doubling its U.S. takings by drawing in $51 million from 25 overseas territories.

First Five Minutes of Golden Compass Now Online!
December 04, 2007 04:12:48Not loosening the marketing campaign on its latest big-budgeted feature "The Golden Compass", New Line Cinema has surprisingly brought up online the first five-minute preview from the fantasy adventure, opening this Friday, December 7, 2007.
Written and directed by Chris Weitz, pic is based on the first book in Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy, which follows the coming of age of its two main characters, Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry. Weitz at one time resigned from handling the film, but finally returned in 2006 after his replacement Anand Tucker quit the project over creative disagreements with New Line.

November 30, 2007 09:11:59Giving a great opportunity for moviegoers to get an early look at its forthcoming big-budgeted flick "The Golden Compass", New Line Cinema is going to present special sneak previews of the fantasy adventure prior to its worldwide debut on Friday, December 7, 2007.
Announcement was made Thursday, November 29 by the studio's President of Domestic Distribution David Tuckerman, informing the previews will be held on Saturday night (Dec.1) in 800 theaters around the States. Pic, based on the first book in Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy, recently scored four-star reviews in U.K.'s Guardian, the Daily Mail, and the Sun following its London premiere.

Principal cast members of the movie like Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Sam Elliott, and newcomer Dakota Blue Richards were all present, displaying their bright smiles as they walked down the red carpet and posed for photographers. Based on the first book of Philip Pullman's "His Dark Material" trilogy, the fantasy adventure is scheduled to open in theaters on December 7 this year. The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, however, has called for a boycott of the movie, stating the original materials to be anti-faith in general, anti-Christian, and anti-Catholic in particular, and pro-atheism.

New Line Cinema Suing Golden Compass Documentary Makers
November 21, 2007 04:11:38Considering itself to have full copyrights on "The Golden Compass", New Line Cinema has taken a legal action against filmmakers of a home video documentary entitled "Beyond the Golden Compass: The Magic of Philip Pullman" upon finding out that the feature is timed to coincide with the theatrical release of the fantasy adventure.
Filed the week of November 12, 2007 in New York District Court, the lawsuit alleges Koch Entertainment, the company making the documentary, for violating New Line's copyrights while asking U.S. District Court Judge Kathleen Tomlinson to enjoin Koch from releasing the video. "Compass", based on the first of Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy, has been expected to be a potential franchise starter for the giant studio, which has spent millions on the rights and marketing of the flick.

In the first clip, labeled "A Bear's Armor", Iorek Byrnison is spotted explaining to lead character Lyra Belacqua that a bear's armor is the equivalent of a human's daemon. A scooper for questeoscurematerie.it has brought up a tidbit saying that Ian McKellen and Christopher Lee, who both played the wizards in the phenomenal "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, are taking parts in the flick, which will open in theaters this December on date 7.
McKellen is said to fill in the voice of Iorek Byrnison, the armored Polar Bear that comes to the aid of Lyra Belacqua. The thing is, Iorek's voice has already been credited to British actor Nonso Anozie, so hopefully the new trailer for the movie set to hit this Tuesday, October 9, will explain all.

New Line Cinema has announced that an exclusive worldwide trailer for the fantasy adventure will be launched on October 9, 2007 during the opening of the celebrated Ice Rink at Rockefeller Center, New York City.
Slated to host the event is Sacramento-born actor Sam Elliott who plays skilled "aeronaut" balloonist Lee Scoresby in the movie.
