'Funny People' Laughs to #1 Box Office

"" has taken over the #1 spot at North American box office from "". Debuted on Friday, July 31 on approximately 4,100 screens at 3,008 sites, the Judd Apatow's thoughtful dramedy movie generated $22.7 million worth of ticket sales over the three-day weekend.

Despite the fact that the movie nabbed the top slot, its performance was far from impressive. The $20 million plus bow is far lower than the debut of Apatow's "" which collected $30.7 million in 2007. While its earning was better than "", "Funny People" was still behind "Virgin" in terms of attendance. The figure also marked lead actor 's worst opening for a comedy since his 2000 "Little Nicky".

'Funny People' Goes to L.A. for World Premiere

Universal Pictures has presented "" through a world premiere event held Monday, July 20, evening. Making use of the ArcLight Hollywood in Los Angeles, California, the studio rolled out red carpet in front of the theater to welcome Hollywood stars attending the upcoming drama comedy's special screening.

Among the cast ensemble spotted arriving for the premiere were four of the major actors, , , and . While Leslie dressed to impress and Seth and Eric suited up, leading actor and executive producer Adam walked along the red carpet in casual attire, wearing white T-shirt topped with an unbuttoned baby blue shirt and a pair of jeans.

MySpace has debuted a new R-rated trailer for upcoming comedy "". Contrary to the previous trailers, this freshly-released trailer features a NSFW stand-up routine by 's George Simmons, more footage of 's character and a better look at 's part.

The comedy movie centers on Simmons, a stand up comedian and movie star who finds out that he's been diagnosed with a terminal, in-operable disease. Dealing with the shocking revelation, he then decides to hire an aspiring stand-up comedian, Ira Wright. Before long, he forms a close bond with Wright and learns that his disease has gone into remission. But, an old flame reenters his life, forcing him to reevaluate what is important to him and what truly gives meaning to his life.

Confirmation of 's involvement in the upcoming comedy "" has come out in form of a production still. Published by MTV, the first look at the Grammy-winning rapper's cameo sees him having a chat at a Hollywood restaurant with dying stand-up comedian George Simmons, who is played by . Though the photo serves as a confirmation, it is still unclear what kind of role Eminem tackles in the feature film.

Earlier, the 36-year-old confessed to VIBE magazine that he is taking a part in the comedy movie and has just done the filming for his cameo. "I just did a cameo a few months ago with Adam Sandler and in a Judd Apatow produced film. It's called Funny People," he said. "I kinda do a little cameo in that which was fun by the way. And was not a fun movie to shoot."

"" is inching closer to its theatrical release in July and with that in mind, Universal Pictures introduced George Simmons, the main character of this Judd Apatow's comedy played by , through a number of faux movies' clips. Four in all, the clips are each taken from Simmons' feature films entitled "Sayonara Davey", "Dog's Best Friend", "Merman" and "Re-Do".

The "Sayonara Davey" clip features Simmons who stars as Davey, a man who works at his alma mater before accidentally being sent to Japan as a foreign exchange student, having a dinner with his Japanese host family. The nearly three minutes clip sees Davey teaching Mr. Ashito how to appreciate his wife more.

Of the matter, the rapper who won Academy Award for Best Original Song for "" gushed, "I just did a cameo a few months ago with and in a Judd Apatow produced film. It's called Funny People." Elaborating more, he said, "I kinda do a little cameo in that which was fun by the way. And 8 Mile was not a fun movie to shoot."

The first fake film will be called "My Best Friend is a Robot" and features as the robot. "There's a poster in his house from a movie called 'My Best Friend is a Robot,' and Owen is the robot," Apatow shared. He then pointed out on another film, saying "There's also a movie called 'Redux,' where [Simmons] turns into a baby."

The first full trailer of "" has made its debut via Moviefone and offered nearly four minutes long sneak peek into Judd Apatow's third directed movie. The trailer starts with a scene where 's George Simmons is doing one of his stand-up sketch, entertaining the audience with his sex jokes.

Giving out more to the film's plot, it then continues to show that when Ira Wright played by comes to Simmons to praise him, Simmons quickly offers the aspiring stand-up comedian to work with him. Before long, Wright finds out that Simmons is dying and while Simmons is fighting his potentially deadly disease, he also deals with his lost love who has married another guy.

Telling the story of a stand-up comedian, "" reportedly will be flooded with many real life stand-up comedians. About it, Slash Film reported that Dave Attell, , Norm MacDonald and Andy Dick will all make a cameo appearance in the upcoming comedy movie as themselves.

According to Slash Film, Attell has revealed that he has filmed a scene with Silverman and MacDonald for the film on the Howard Stern Show on Wednesday, December 17. The comedian further claimed that the scene was shot quickly and was highly improvised. The publication further noted that Dick has also shot a cameo scene as himself.

The only good thing about this movie was the soundtrack! The writer's came up short with dialogue so obviously had to insert the "F" word at least twice in every sentence to make up a feature length movie.
