'The Final Destination' Rules Labor Day Box Office
September 08, 2009 09:09:12As predicted, "The Final Destination" pushed through the Labor Day weekend atop the North American box office. Having secured its #1 place at the chart for a second consecutive week over the three-day weekend, the Warner Bros.' 3D horror-fest stayed strong on the top position with $15.3 million that was counted from September 4 to 7.
With the additional Labor Day tally, the fourth chapter in the horror series has lifted its total earning to $50.4 million after only eleven days in theaters. That made this David R. Ellis-directed thriller to be well on track in becoming the franchise's highest grossing film, as it will easily beat 2006's "Final Destination 3" bow of $54.1 million.

'The Final Destination' Sustains #1 Lead at Box Office
September 07, 2009 09:09:22"The Final Destination" is a box office champion one more time. After beating up "H2: Halloween 2" at the race to the top of North American box office last weekend, the fourth "Final Destination" film won the first three days of this Labor Day weekend and retained its #1 position for a second-straight weekend.
With an estimated $12.4 million in its pocket, the 3-D thriller came ahead of romantic comedy "All About Steve" and is thought to soon pass the $54 million bow collected by "Final Destination 3". So far, its ten days haul brought the ticket sales to the approximate total of $47.6 million, and it is expected to rake in more when the four days tally is counted.

Enjoying a boost from higher ticket prices for its 3-D runs in 1,678 3-D screens among the 3,121 theaters it was played, the thriller movie about a group of teens who try to cheat death collected $27.4 million. The opening weekend bow marked the highest opening weekend of the franchise as "Final Destination 3", which held the series' previous best only pulled in $19.1 million in 2006.
