'The Day the Earth Stood Still' Invades North American Box Office
December 15, 2008 11:12:37"The Day the Earth Stood Still" has led the North American box office race this weekend, which is ended on Sunday, December 14. Dethroning "Four Christmases", the remake of Robert Wise's 1951 sci-fi thriller has debuted #1 with $30.5 million after three-days of screening at 3,560 theaters across the U.S.
Though securing the revenue chart's top position, the Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly-starrer movie could not pass the best-ever-bow-for-a-December-weekend record made by Will Smith's "I Am Legend", which opened to $77.2 million. Nonetheless, it is still the 20th Century Fox's biggest opening since "Horton Hears a Who!" debuted with $45 million back in March.

Using AMC Loews Lincoln Square, New York as the place the special screening took place on Tuesday, December 9, the premiere saw many Hollywood stars walking down the red carpet.
Those attending the events included the film's cast ensemble, Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Jaden Smith, Jon Hamm and Kathy Bates, as well as director Scott Derrickson. They were joined by celebrity guests from Jaden's parents, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, to WWE star-turned-actor John Cena and television actress Jennifer Westfeldt.

December 04, 2008 03:12:25Nearly a week to the theatrical release of "The Day the Earth Stood Still", three brand new clips from the sci-fi classic remake have made their way out. Exclusively released by MTV, the snippets highlight on alien messenger Klaatu, microbiologist Helen and her son Jacob.
The first clip displays the scene where Klaatu tells Helen about the reality mankind is facing, claiming that the planet is dying and the only way to save it is by getting rid of human race. The second one portrays how Klaatu escapes an American military facility where he is being interrogated, while the last one presents the scene where Jacob argues to Helen that men should stand up and fight for survival.

No words yet about cast, crew, and production schedule, but Fox has claimed that the picture will be released on May 9 next year, 4 months and 23 days earlier than the original's release date fifty-six years ago.

posted by Andy000 on Jul 05, 2008I saw the movie and it is not bad at all. My understanding and this is what I felt: keep the 50th's not to far away from us. Do you really thing that we have really changed that much, since then? Beside the technology? If we are capable of great things we are also capable of the lowest things. We are still short minded as we use to be and will always be like this...because we are human and humanity always repeat itself. We will be erase one day, either from an alien, a meteor or by ourselves, but earth will still be there and survive to us.
