The face of the Earth is about to be changed forever and human beings are Earth's only hope of survival. In the freshly released teaser of "The Day the Earth Stood Still", that is exactly what director Scott Derrickson intended to deliver. Displaying a stunning special effects, the teaser views glimpses focusing on the destruction of the Earth.

Giving a real look into the re-imagining of Robert Wise's classic 1951 black-and-white sci-fi- film, the compilation of clips begins with a group of people gathered in a government building being briefed of what they should do. Before the briefing ends, a man calls on one particular woman among the people, Helen Benson, and tells her that he is recruiting her. Then, the mystery starts to unveil slowly but surely.

Following his father's footstep of being an actor, Will Smith's 9-year-old son, Jaden Smith has landed himself a part in the 20th Century Fox's "The Day the Earth Stood Still". Though the speculation of him starring in the sci-fi thriller remake has broken out earlier, Hollywood Reporter has just given out the confirmation.

According to the site, the young star in "The Pursuit of Happyness", in which he played opposite his father, will be playing Jacob, the rebellious 8-year-old son of scientist Helen Benson who first makes contact with a humanoid alien Klaatu. Smith will also be joining the star studded cast consisting of Jennifer Connelly, Keanu Reeves, Kathy Bates and the Golden Globe winner Jon Hamm.

Seems 20th Century Fox is on the way to assemble a star-studded cast for its newly-developed flick "The Day the Earth Stood Still." Already had Keanu Reeves in the list, the studio now has picked up another big Hollywood name to join the actor, none other than the beautiful, talented Jennifer Connelly.

A remake of the 1951 sci-fi feature of the same name, project casts Connelly as Helen Benson, the role Patricia Neal portrayed in the original, Variety has reported. The Oscar winner is further said to segue to the picture after she finishes shooting "He's Just Not That Into You" for New Line Cinema.

Becoming the first acting talent to board the cast, Keanu Reeves has given his commitment to topline "The Day the Earth Stood Still", 20th Century Fox's remake of its 1951 sci-fi classic of the same name.

In this new version, Reeves will fill the role of Klaatu, a humanoid alien who arrives on Earth, accompanied by an indestructible, heavily armed robot, carrying a warning to world leaders that their continued aggression will lead to annihilation by species watching from afar. Pic thereby marks the actor's return to the sci-fi realm after "The Matrix" trilogy while putting him in back-to-back films for Fox of which Fox Searchlight division is backing up his newest starring vehicle "The Night Watchman."

Already had several big screen projects to do on his plate, Scott Derrickson appears to still have enough space to add one more into the list. The Hollywood North Report has revealed that "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" director is taking the helming duties in "The Day the Earth Stood Still" for the 20th Century Fox.

A remake of Robert Wise's 1951 sci-fi classic, the project will likely to follow closely the story presented in the original, which tells about a humanoid alien named Klaatu who comes to Earth to warn its leaders not to take their conflicts into space or they will face lethal consequences. Derrickson is reportedly prepping for a shoot in Vancouver, Canada where he will film the flick until November this year.

Fox Repeats "The Day the Earth Stood Still"

Another big-budget sci-fi remake is on the move, this time at the 20th Century Fox. The studio has confirmed through FirstShowing.net that it is about to develop "The Day the Earth Stood Still", a new version of its 1951 movie of the same title directed by Robert Wise.

No words yet about cast, crew, and production schedule, but Fox has claimed that the picture will be released on May 9 next year, 4 months and 23 days earlier than the original's release date fifty-six years ago.

Yup, Keanu is playing a role of an alien being named Klaatu. This one will be a remake sci-fi masterpiece ^_^

Just saw the trailer before 'Hancock'. Keanu is as hot as ever. Love the scene with everyone watching him being interrogated. That guy is creepy. I totally had shivers running down my spine. What is he? An Alien?
