'Control' Crowned Evening Standard's 2007 Best Film
February 05, 2008 09:02:15The drama biopic "Control" has pushed aside the domination of Joe Wright's "Atonement" at the 2007 Evening Standard British Film Awards. On a ceremony held Sunday, February 3, at The Ivy restaurant in central London, the biopic chronicling the tragic life of Joy Division's frontman Ian Curtis was named the Best Film besting "Atonement", "Blue Blood", "Hallam Foe" and "It's a Free World...".
Aside from winning the top prize of the night, the Anton Corbijn-directed film has also brought home Best Screenplay kudo for its writer Matt Greenhalgh. The success of "Control" in garnering double awards was followed by film critics' favorite "There Will Be Blood" which nailed Best Actor for its star Daniel Day-Lewis and Best Film Score for Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood.

28th London Critics' Circle Film Awards Nominees Listed
December 14, 2007 05:12:14Celebrating its 28th anniversary in honoring the best in film-making, the London Critics' Circle has officially revealed the contenders for the 2008 ALFS Awards, giving most nominations to both "Control" and "Atonement."
The two pictures each scores eight nods that include Attenborough Award for British Film of the Year and British Director of the Year, but neither of them are in the running for top prize Film of the Year. The latter slot lists out titles like "No Country for Old Men", "There Will Be Blood", "Zodiac", "The Bourne Ultimatum", and "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" instead.

November 29, 2007 09:11:24No big surprise came out from the gala ceremony of this year's British Independent Film Awards as the organizers celebrated it for the tenth time Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at London's Roundhouse.
Top contender "Control", as presumed, became the big winner with five kudos in total, most notably top prize Best British Independent Film. Helmer Anton Corbjin took home two others of Best Director and the Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director. The rest went to leading actor Sam Riley and co-star Toby Kebbell who were named Most Promising Newcomer and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.

Leading the pack is biographical feature "Control" as it remarkably took ten nods in total, most notably that of Best British Independent Film. To win the prize, pic, however, faces tough competition from the likes of "And When Did You Last See Your Father?", "Notes on a Scandal", "Hallam Foe", and "Eastern Promises."

June 28, 2007 11:06:57In the follow-up to the previously-reported flicks set to be presented at the 32nd annual Toronto International Film Festival, a series of big screen titles have been announced on Tuesday, June 26 to complete the lineup for the event, slated to spin on September 6 - 15 this year.
For the Vanguard section, the organizers list in UK/Australia production of "Control", Spain's "The Orphanage", plus two French movies "Naissance Des Pieuvres" ("Water Lilies") and "Les Chansons D'Amour." Meanwhile, documentary flick "The Mosquito Problem and Other Stories", a collaborative production of USA, Bulgaria, and Germany, is submitted into the Real to Reel slot.
