'Juno' and 'Superbad' Among 2008 MTV Movie Awards Nominees
May 07, 2008 09:05:22Continuing its annual celebration of honoring best films and Hollywood's talents, MTV is gearing up for 17th MTV Movie Awards by announcing the list of nominees up for the golden popcorn statuettes on Tuesday, May 6. Among those nominated for the special event, Judd Apatow's comedy "Superbad" and Jason Reitman's acclaimed dramedy "Juno" show off their dominations by collecting 5 and 4 nods respectively.
Though mostly the two movies garnered gongs in different categories, they would have to battle it up for the supreme prize, Best Movie award. In the particular category, they also will be facing stiff competitions from four other blockbuster nominees, "Transformers", "Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End", "I Am Legend" and "National Treasure: Book of Secrets".

American Gangster Sued by Former DEA Agents
January 17, 2008 01:01:08Though well-praised by movie critics, it doesn't mean that "American Gangster" is free from controversy. According to reports, NBC Universal, the owner of Universal Studios which produced the film, has been sued by a group of retired DEA agents on Wednesday, January 16. The three former federal drug enforcement agents filed a $55 million defamation lawsuit in federal court in Manhattan claiming that the Ridley Scott directed-film has falsely made them to be the villains.
Reportedly, Louis Diaz, Gregory Korniloff and Jack Toal believed that the studio who asserted that the film was based on a true story have misinterpreted the events surrounding Frank Lucas and New Jersey Detective Richard Roberts. Korniloff revealed in the suit that he was a lead agent assigned to the case and was present when agents and police officers raided Lucas' home in Teaneck, N.J. in 1975, the scene which is depicted in the film starring Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe and Cuba Gooding Jr..

14th Annual SAG Awards Nominees Revealed
December 21, 2007 10:12:21Completed the voting from its two randomly selected panels which each comprises of 2,100 members, Screen Actors Guild finally listed out nominations for the 14th edition of its SAG Awards on December 20, 2007 at the Pacific Design Center's Silver Screen Theater in West Hollywood.
Announced by actors Jeanne Tripplehorn and Terrence Howard, the substantial labor union made surprising decision by hailing road movie "Into the Wild" as the top contender with four nods in total. Trailing behind are "Michael Clayton" and "No Country for Old Men" which each score three mentions, including that in best supporting actor category.

Bee Movie Takes Honey from American Gangster
November 12, 2007 02:11:49Major change marked the domestic weekend box office running November 9-11, 2007 as last week's runner-up "Bee Movie" surprisingly toppled down last week's champ "American Gangster" to become the new No.1 movie of the chart in its second spin.
The CGI animated feature packed in family crowds to pull in $25.6 million while the crime saga fared slightly lower at $24 million in ticket sales. The twosome, in the meantime, prevented newcomers "Fred Claus" and "Lions for Lambs" to go no further than the third and fourth rank, respectively as "Claus" took in $18.5 million while "Lambs" $6.7 million.

Surpassing the expectations of its distributor, the Universal Pictures release successfully sold $43.6 million worth of tickets during its three-day debut, a remarkable number its fellow newcomer and closest competitor "Bee Movie" failed to beat. Despite the heavy marketing, the family cartoon sadly fared less with $38 million, but it was powerful enough to push last-week champ "Saw IV" to number three as the horror pic scored way lower at $10.3 million.

Ridley Scott in Talks to Direct American Gangster
February 15, 2006 11:02:54Variety reported that Ridley Scott is interested and still in talks to direct the upcoming film "American Gangster." Of drama genre, the story revolves around a Harlem heroin kingpin who figured out a way to smuggle heroin in the coffins of American soldiers returning from the Vietnam War.
