Coming out as the only newcomer, the graphic retelling of Frank Miller's graphic novel about the ancient Battle of Thermopylae amazingly scoops up a fantastic number of $70.8 million to take over the No.1 position from Disney's "Wild Hogs" on the weekend box office ended Sunday, March 11.

The race appears to have the same champ this time as supernatural hero flick "Ghost Rider" takes the checkered flag in its second round on the weekend box-office competition ended February 25, 2007 after successfully pulling $20 million into its pocket.

Placed second on the list is newcomer "The Number 23" which makes its way to collect $14.6 million in its debut to thereby push last-week's runner up "Bridge to Terabithia" one notch below at number three as the fantasy feat scores slightly lesser at $14.1 million.

"Amazing Grace" Finding Way to U.S

"Amazing Grace" finally can make its way to U.S theaters. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Independent distributors Samuel Goldwyn Films and Roadside Attractions have secured the U.S distribution rights to this slave trade-drama of Michael Apted's direction. Both companies are set to release the film on February 23 next year to mark the 200th anniversary of the British parliament's vote to abolish the slave trade.

A production of Bristol Bay Prods., "Grace" tells about the real story of William Wilberforce in his effort to end slavery at the turn of the 19th century with the help of his wife and slave trader-turned-abolitionist Rev. John Newton. Cast includes Ioan Gruffudd, Albert Finney, Rufus Sewell, Ciaran Hinds, and Michael Gambon. Steven Knight has been tapped to pen the script with Patricia Heaton and Terrence Malick seating as producers.

Number of movie stars joining the cast of the forthcoming drama genre "Amazing Grace." Romola Garai, Michael Gambon and Rufus Sewell have all joined the film top cast, which include Ioan Gruffudd as British anti-slavery pioneer William Wilberforce and Albert Finney as Wilberforce's confidante John Newton.

Also signed on to star in are Ciaran Hinds, Benedict Cumberbatch and Youssou N'Dour. Based on the life of Wilberforce, the film follows his 18th century political career, which placed him at odds with some of the most powerful men of the time, including the king.

Gruffudd Saying Grace

The life of British anti-slavery pioneer William Wilberforce has touched actor Ioan Gruffudd that he's signed on to portray the hero in the upcoming film, "Amazing Grace." The film chronicles Wilberforce's 18th century political career, which placed him at odds with some of the most powerful men of the time, including the king.

Steven Knight wrote the screenplay, while Michael Apted will direct the movie for Walden Media. Joining the cast is Albert Finney, who is set to play John Newton, a Wilberforce confidant.

I haven't seen the film but I saw some clips at WingClips.com that looked very inspirational. Can't wait to see the film!
