* * * * Check this out if you are big on the jarring punch of "New York Film School" looking productions. The racing footage and the darkish heavy amp super-dubbing during the later stages of "Supercross, The Movie" is way different than anything else showing on the screen lately... Some re-editing would improve the production dramatically. Several scenes included at the onset lack cinematic professionalism. I would have liked to see the first twelve minutes lost on the cutting room floor. Jessie James deserves some respect. Supercross circuit racer acting performances are just as good as the professional actors, who are for the most part fun to be around. The two racers with acting lines seem like naturals and add creed. The people who payed at the entrance gates also got a chance to be filmed along with all the actors. That's good for America, and this American made motorsport... The digital sound track during the racing is like a video game. A general sampling of songs is simple and OK... Some historic romance fluff is a bit of fantasy... The "Supercross" DVD reduces some of the film grain during the acting scenes, and includes some worthwhile interviews. The racing scenes are very entertaining. The re-vamped HD version of "Supercross" looks fantastic on a High Definition television signal tube. In the Summer of 06, I think that HBO played "Supercross" around 40 times with standard lines, and in High Definition about 30 times or more... "Supercross: The Movie" and progeny will find many followers among sporting enthusiasts, also film and video deliberants... With time, the oddly submurged and weak conceptive choice of what scenes to edit and how, will be less important. What matters is the fantastic contest cinematography and the fact that the production with all its media offerings brings the sport of Supercross to the eyes of the world... and makes some good looks.
