The Smashing Pumpkins Announce New Drummer and Several Concerts
August 19, 2009 09:08:59Following an audition held by The Smashing Pumpkins to seek a new drummer, it was announced that Mike Byrne, a 19-year-old Portland, OR native, won the audition and so replaced Jimmy Chamberlin who left the band earlier this year. "I'm super excited to be playing with the band. Dream come true, man," Mike responded to the announcement.
There were about 1,000 submissions that Billy Corgan, the remaining member of the band, has received during the audition. Among those participants, Mike who has played for Portland indie bands, such as Moses, Smell the Roses and Mercury Tree, was the one who is considered by Billy "to have that X-factor that all the great drummers have, a stunning blend of power, speed, and grace."

March 31, 2009 08:03:52Following previous announcement stating that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has walked away from The Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan, the only remaining member of the band, desires to find a new talent to fill Jimmy's shoes. "Billy Corgan is currently searching for talented musicians to join him," so a message on their official website read.
"The Smashing Pumpkins are continuing to make music after the departure of original member Jimmy Chamberlin," the announcement continued. "When Jimmy originally auditioned for The Smashing Pumpkins, he was playing in a locally touring jazz band that was playing weddings and street fairs. It just goes to show that you never know where the next big talent will come from."

"The SMASHING PUMPKINS' guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member Billy Corgan has announced that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the group," so a post on the band's official website and MySpace read.
With Chamberlin's exit, The Smashing Pumkins now only have Corgan as the remaining member. Though so, Corgan confirms that he "will continue to write and record as SMASHING PUMPKINS with plans to head into the studio this spring."

The Smashing Pumpkins to Be Inducted to RockWalk
April 15, 2008 04:04:19On Monday, April 14 it was announced that The Smashing Pumpkins will be inducted to Hollywood's RockWalk for their credibility in music field. Their induction ceremony will take place at the Hollywood Guitar Center on April 23 at noon. They are also scheduled to make a performance outside the store.
The band's remaining members vocalist Billy Corgan and guitarist Jimmy Chamberlin reportedly will be present during the ceremony to press their hands on the prepared cement. The molded handprints would later be put alongside those by other rock icons like Johnny Cash, Stevie Wonder, Brian Wilson, Elvis Presley, Bonnie Raitt, and Eric Clapton.
Smashing Pumpkins Cite 'Artistic Integrity' in Suing Virgin

The rock band are suing Virgin for the use of their name, music and image in the ad to market the soft drink and in the Internet-based business.
The Pumpkins claimed that the ads for worldwide promotional campaign is a form of breach of contract because Virgin did not ask for the band's permission. The rock act that is now comprising only Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin filed a lawsuit on Monday, March 24 in Los Angeles Superior Court, stating that "Virgin has deceived and confused the public into believing that (the Pumpkins were) affiliated with the promotion."

The biggest acts representing two music genres are going to headline this year's Bang! Music Festival. Kanye West and The Smashing Pumpkins are on to rock the stage placed at Miami's Bayfront Park Amphitheater.
Due to good response and growing numbers of acts, the festival has been modified to a two-day festival that starts November 10 and ends a day later. Approximately thirty acts have been prepared as the lineup, some confirmed are Riverboat Gamblers, Automatic Loveletter, The Bravery, and Kevens. The first two acts will join West on the first day while the remaining two will share stage with Pumpkins on the last day.

The Smashing Pumpkins has extended reunion tour to fall. The newly reunited group will embark on Sept 8 in Montreal as part of 2007 Osheaga Festival and wind down November 5 in Nashville.
The band will promote their new effort “Zeitgeist” that is arriving July 10 via Reprise. A pre-order for this record will allow fans to purchase “early bird tickets” on Ticketmaster. The public sale meanwhile, will be opened on July 14.

Making Paris their first stop since reuniting, The Smashing Pumpkins extend the excitement to Asheville, NC and San Francisco. In these cities, the band will play in multiple days and allow attendance to bring their cameras to document the moment.
Orange Peel, Ashville will come first on June 23 to July 5 and then Fillmore, San Francisco follows two weeks after on July 22 to August 1. A source said that this concert would be Asheville's highlight of the year and the biggest in Orange Peel's history.

With the absence of James Iha in the reunion and bassist D'arcy Wretzky's static response, The Smashing Pumpkins have to find other way to fill in the gap. Two names have allegedly been revealed to become the band's new members.
Ginger Reyes, a bassist from all girl punk band Halo Friendlies, has been reported joining the band along with The Lassie Foundation's ex guitarist Jeff Schroeder. The Smashing Pumpkins' publicist Mitch Schneider however said that there has been no official recruitment for the two and that they are still considering some 'things'.

Helmed by MySpace, a project is being baked for bands like Panic! At the Disco, 30 Seconds to Mars, +44 and The Academy Is... to record their favorite songs from The Smashing Pumpkins' collection.
Each band will post their version of Pumpkins' songs on their respective MySpace blog on May 14. The covered-songs will then be molded into CD that will be available along with July edition of Spin Magazine. The magazine will also feature each band's personal comment on the Pumpkins.

It looks like the reunion of The Smashing Pumpkins will not come full circle. Former member James Iha has confirmed his absence from the reunion.
Revealing that he has no interest in re-tying the knot with the newly reunited band, Iha said that he is too busy with his own schedule. "I'm writing for a solo record, which I'm going to record this year, and working on my indie label Scratchie Records," he said.

The 2007 Reading and Leeds Festival has recruited a new string of bands to perform in the event this summer. The headliners are the multiple Grammy award winning Red Hot Chili Peppers, the newly reunited rock band The Smashing Pumpkins and also half-English half-Swedish Indie pop band Razorlight.
The annual event which is also popular as Carling Weekend, will begin on August 24. The event's official website also informs that Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Fall Out Boy, Bloc Party and Nine Inch Nails are among some of the bands performing. These bands will have their gigs on the second round of the three-day weekend.

Definitely a huge comeback from The Smashing Pumpkin as the alternative band offers a new album and a number of festivals this year. First album after breakups in 2000, "Zeitgeist" is due July 2007 and Pinkpop Festival marks its first headlining gig.
In February 2007, vocalist Billy Corgan posted a MySpace bulletin indicating that "Zeitgeist", will be released exactly at 7:07 a.m. on July 7, which means 07-07-07. Highly anticipated, the album is promoted through several festivals. Pinkpop festival starts on May 28 in Netherlands then stops at several other countries such as Germany, Portugal, and Italy before finishes on June 17 at Interlaken, Switzerland.

The Smashing Pumpkins are reunited. But that's not all. The music act also is back to the studio, recording their next album, which also is their first set ever since calling it quits with their swan song, the 2000's "Machina: The Machines of God."
The Grammy-winning rockers confirmed their comingback in a short post on its Web site, stating in it that they will record the album with Roy Thomas Baker, the famed English producer best known for his work with Queen.
