MTVU annual award show, Woodie, has announced its nominees with The Shins on the lead. The indie rock group are up for three categories 'Alumni Woodie', 'Viral Woodie' and the prestigious 'Woodie of the Year' . For the latter, they will compete against Amy Winehouse, Common, Gym Class Heroes and Lily Allen.
Further down the list, Modest Mouse, Gym Class Heroes, Allen, Justice, Linkin Park, and The Academy Is... take two nominations each, while others such as Arcade Fire, Lil Wayne, Bright Eyes, The Knife, Klaxons, M.I.A., Spoon, Cansei de Ser Sexy, The Rapture, TV on the Radio, Thom Yorke and Paramore get their fair share of one nomination each.
Modest Mouse Brings the Heat to US' Download Fest

In the third cycle, U.S. version of U.K's Download Festival will present Modest Mouse as one of the headliners. Taking place at Tweeter Center, Boston starting from August 18, the festival will also feature Incubus, The Shins and Wolf Parade as the sidekicks band.
The Live Nation-owned festival will take more than the usual three-day course. There will be venues at Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Wash. on August 25, at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wis. on Sept. 1 and also at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif. on Oct. 6. More dates are following to be announced this month. Tickets to these shows will go on sale beginning June.

Norah Jones is still a favorite. The jazz singer/pianist has her first album in three years "Not Too Late" opened at No. 1 on the U.S. pop charts Wednesday Feb 7th, sold 405,000 copies in its first week on the charts. Jones' last album, "Feels Like Home," debuted at No. 1 in February 2004 with 1.02 million copies; her 2002 debut, "Come Away With Me" reached the top the following year.
Behind her on the 2nd spot is Katharine McPhee's self-titled debut album, which sold 116,000 copies. Holding on to No. 3 is DAUGHTRY's "DAUGHTRY" sold 77,000 copies. Celtic Woman's "A New Journey" debuts at No. 4, taking in 71,000 units, ahead of Pretty Ricky's "Late Night Special" at No. 5 with another 62,000 copies.

In another major week for new releases, Pretty Ricky reaches the best achievement in the US album chart for the week ended Sunday January 28th. The hip-hop boy band has ended the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack's reign at the top of the Billboard 200 with their LP, "Late Night Special", sold 132,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The group's new album beats "Wincing the Night Away" by cult indie act The Shins who comes in 2nd with 118,000 copies sold. In the 3rd spot on the album chart is DAUGHTRY's self-titled RCA debut, which held the No. 1 spot the previous week, sold another 80,000 copies. Following at No. 4 is the new release "2007 Grammy Nominees," a collection of 23 tracks from this year's award contenders, which sold 77,000 copies.

The 2006 Lollapalooza festival is coming. The blow-out event is scheduled to be held Aug. 4-6 in Chicago's Grant Park. Lollapalooza co-founder Perry Farrell has on Thursday March 16th, 2006 announced the lineup tapped to perform at the fest.
Among the many names mentioned as the lead lineup are rap superstar Kanye West, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wilco, Death Cab for Cutie, Queens of the Stone Age and Ween. Also there are some other notable musicians, like Matisyahu, The Shins, Jack White's new band, The Raconteurs and many more.
