Nirvana's Songs Utilized in 'Cold Case'

Nirvana still owns its legacy in music industry. The band's songs are going to be utilized in CBS crime drama series 'Cold Case' that will air its 5th season on September 23.
"Nirvana's music not only evokes the era when this case's killings took place but brings a starkness and poetry to the story that deeply enhances it," the show's executive producer, Veena Sud told the Chicago Tribune.
Patti Smith Speaks Up on "Twelve"

Patti Smith is going to have her next album, "Twelve", released via Columbia Records on April 17th later this year.
The set, as said by Smith, will carry in it her renditions of Stevie Wonder's "Pastime Paradise," Neil Young's "Helpless" and Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants To Rule the World."
Foo Fighters to Release Acoustic Live Album

Foo Fighters is about to release an acoustic live album and DVD next month. The set, tentatively titled "Skin and Bones", will feature 15 live and acoustic tracks recorded in Los Angeles.
"Skin and Bones", due to hit stores on November 7th, was recorded at three August Los Angeles dates on the band's acoustic tour. It includes the songs, "In Your Honor," "Big Me," "Everlong," "My Hero" and "Walking After You."

"Definitely Maybe," the debut album of band Oasis has been voted The Greatest Album of All Time in a major music poll organized by the book of "British Hit Singles and Albums" and music website NME.com. Meanwhile, The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" comes at 2nd, while the 3rd rank is secured by the pop and rock music group's another album titled "Revolver".
Top the poll, which votes involving of more than 40,000 music fans coming from as far afield as New Zealand, Croatia and Colombia, at No. 4 is Radiohead's "OK Computer", which is ahead of second Oasis title, "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" at No. 5. In 6th place, in the meantime, is "Nevermind" by Nirvana, followed after by The Stone Roses' "The Stone Roses" at No. 7.

In a poll conducted by music channel VH1, Irish rock band U2 has its 1992 song "One" credited as Britain's Favorite Lyric thanks to its line "One life, with each other, sisters, brothers". Elsewhere, chosen as the 2nd Britain's Favorite Lyric is The Smiths' "How Soon is Now" of which line reading "So you go and you stand on your own, and you leave on your own, and you go home, and you cry, and you want to die".
Debut at No. 3 on the poll is Nirvana's "I feel stupid and contagious, here we are now, entertain us" from its "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Take the 4th place is Bob Marley's "Redemption Song", while Coldplay's "Yellow" secures the 5th place. Rounding out the Top 10 on the poll is Robbie Williams' uplifting "Angels" and Radiohead's sour "Creep."
Courtney Love Sells Nirvana's Catalogue

Courtney Love has sold 25 per cent of her share of Nirvana's publishing catalogue for more than $50 million. The stake, which she inherited in 1994 after her late husband Kurt Cobain committed suicide, was sold to Larry Mestel of Primary Wave Music Publishing.
As for everybody to know, Love was given 98 per cent of Nirvana's publishing rights following Cobain's death, while his bandmates Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic split the remaining two per cent. "I took a strategic partner, Larry Mestel, to help me co-manage the estate because it was overwhelming," Love said.
Courtney Love Sued By Her Lawyers
October 28, 2005 01:10:49Troubled rocker Courtney Love can't clean herself up just like that as she's facing another legal trouble brought to the court by Seattle law firm Hendricks & Lewis. Per MTV.com, the Hendricks & Lewis is suing Love for failing to pay her more than $340,000 debt which she should pay to the firm for work they did in securing publishing rights and other materials from husband Kurt Cobain and band Nirvana.
In details, Hendricks & Lewis claim they were responsible for getting more than $7 million in advances for Love, $4 million for Nirvana's 2002 greatest hits CD and another $3.3 million for Cobain's journals, but when they asked to be paid, Love allegedly said that she didn't have money to do that. The law firm also named Love and Cobain's daughter, Frances Bean Cobain in the suit and is seeking a legal claim on all of Love's papers in their possession, which include material belonging to the late Cobain.
The Best of Nirvana

Thus, they will add 3 previously unreleased tracks to their upcoming compilation, "Sliver: The Best of the Box," which will marry the street on November 1.
The three new tracks, which include "Spank Thru" from the famed 1985 "Fecal Matter" demo tape, the 1990 studio outtake "Sappy" and a pre-"Nevermind" rehearsal recording of "Come as You Are," will be added to the one disc set material that was previously included on the band's 2004 box set, "With the Lights Out."
Nirvana, Public Enemy Preserved
April 12, 2005 09:04:25Nirvana's landmark 1991 album "Nevermind," which launched a radio revolution and ushered in the grunge era, has been chosen as one among 50 others listed in this year selections worthy of preservation by the library's National Recording Registry. The National Recording Preservation Board, consists of 20 experts from the music industry and preservation field, picked the 50 nominees from nominations made by the public for recordings considered "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
And so the recordings chosen in the list are those considered to help developing a seminal style and have become evergreens, which include; "Gypsy Love Song" (1989) by Eugene Cowles; "Ain't Misbehavin'" (1929) by Fats Waller; Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" (1939); Hank Williams' "Lovesick Blues" (1949); the Penguins' doo-wop classic "Earth Angel" (1955); John Coltrane's groundbreaking "Giant Steps" (1959); "The Girl From Ipanema," with Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Astrud Gilberto (1963); and James Brown's "Live at the Apollo" (1965).
