Toby Keith Tops Forbes List of Country's Top Earners
May 26, 2008 03:05:03Country music artist Toby Keith has been named the Highest-Earning Country Star in a new Forbes magazine study. According to the publication, the singer is raking in an estimated $48 million over the last year, thanks to his major endorsement deal with Ford trucks, involvement in his I Love This Bar & Grill chain of restaurants, and ownership of his record label, Show Dog Nashville.
Country trio Rascal Flatts comes in second on the list, with $40 million in earnings. The music group's inclusion in the list is because of their Top 10 2007 tour that proved to help them earning such amount of earnings.
Nominees of 43rd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards
March 05, 2008 09:03:41Kenny Chesney rules way above his peers in dominating the Academy of Country Music Awards nominations. The country crooner who released his eleventh studio album "Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates" last year, receives as many as 11 nods while others go below seven nods.
Among the categories Chesney is nominated in are Top Male Vocalist and kudos for his album, single, video and song. Chesney, who is a reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year is again running for the same category this year and should he win the title again, he will be in tie with Garth Brooks as the prime academy winner in the category.
George Strait Coming Down the Road in 2008

Refusing to stop, veteran country singer George Strait once again hit the road starting Jan 10, 2008. He will depart from Austin, Texas and wind down March 7 in Lubbock, Texas.
Beside playing his classics, Strait will support his upcoming retrospective album '22 More Hits' that is due November 13 via MCA Nashville. More dates are expected to be announced soon.

Country Music Association Awards members have found musicians eligible to be seated at the nominations list this year. Those gaining their attention most are Brad Paisley and George Strait who earn 5 nods each.
Paisley and Strait are competing in 4 same categories: Single of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. Paisley alone is up for Music Video of the Year through 'Online' while Strait is running for Musical Event of the Year sharing with Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson.

Preceded by CMT Music Awards last month, this year's Academy of Country Music Awards boast similar faces in the guest list. The May 15 night event has presented its performers and called the winners one by one.
Two times winner Kenny Chesney secured its third winning for the category Entertainer of the Year, beating this year's frontrunner George Strait. With the winning, he becomes one out of three artists to take the award three times in a row. The beaten Strait meanwhile, took other trophies in two categories, Single of the Year and Song of the Year both for "Give It Away".

A string of performers to grace the 2007 Academy of Country Music Awards' stage have been announced. Held at MGM Grand, Las Vegas, the event puts up country connoisseurs Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Reba McEntire, Sugarland and pop star Kelly Clarkson.
Brokks & Dunn, apart from performing is nominated for 7 categories, just one category less than the frontrunner Strait. Chesney is also in the nomination list for two counts while rising star Sugarland is up to Top Vocal Duo nomination.

A final batch of nominees for the 42nd Academy of Country Music Awards has been announced and surely this is the year for George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, Rascal Flatts and also Carrie Underwood.
Topping the number of nominations at eight counts, Strait who is known for his 'honky tonk' music is again predicted as the frontrunner for this awards show. He places himself among the top categories including Top Male Vocalist, Entertainer of the Year and also Album of the Year for "It Just Comes Natural" (2006). Veteran singer Rod Stewart leads the pack in the US pop album chart Wednesday Oct 18th, with his latest effort "Still the Same...Great Rock Classics of Our Time" sold 184,304 copies in the week ended October 15. The set, which is Stewart's first rock release in eight years, is the star's fourth No. 1 album in his entire music career.
With Stewart taking the very top position on the album chart, last week's champ goth-pop band Evanescence's "The Open Door" slips to 2nd position with another 164,000 copies. Rapper Lloyd Banks' second set, "Rotten Apple," bows at No. 3 taking in 143,000 units. Jimmy Buffett's "Take the Weather With You" is No. 4 on the Top 200 and No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart with 121,000 units.

It's no longer Ludacris on the top spot of the US pop album charts. Evanescence, in fact, is the one leads the pack in busy album release week, jumps straight in at number one in the Billboard 200 with their new album "The Open Door" sold 447,000 copies during the week ended October 8th.
Aside from the attainment, "The Open Door" also is claimed as the 700th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 since the magazine started its weekly chart 50 years ago. The set, what's more, also marks the rock band's first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The Killers' second album "Sam's Town" comes next at No. 2, sold 315,000 copies.

In a reader poll, which is about to be released Friday June 16th, 2006 in Country Weekly, the name of country singer Keith Urban comes up as the Sexiest Male Country Star, beating the likes of such country music artists as Toby Keith, Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney, all of whom rounding out the top five, in order.
"The biggest surprise is how rapidly over the last couple of years Keith Urban has shot to the head of the class," Editor Bill Gubbins said. Meanwhile he added that there are about 32,000 readers voted in the first annual poll, both online and by mail.

At least one more award that country music superstar George Strait adds to his pocket as he was given an honorary doctorate of humane letters by his alma mater, Texas State University, in a private ceremony Friday May 26th, 2006.
"Dr. Strait? I like the sound of that," Strait said that day. "I am so proud to be a graduate of Texas State University and appreciate so much that you did this for me."

Based on the data provided to the trade publication Pollstar by concert promoters and venue managers, there are no significant changes on the Top 20 Concert Tours rank. Here are the recap of the Top 10 which include the so-called modern circus "Cirque De Soleil" at No. 1 with $1,401,283 total box office gross.
At No. 2 is still Bon Jovi which tours score around $1,263,894, ahead of Aerosmith at No. 3 with total gross of $1,144,03. In the meantime the 4th position is still dominated by Coldplay garnering for about $930,632, followed after by George Strait at No. 5 scoring $839,650 and Queen and Paul Rodgers whose collaboration earn them $591,755.
Lee Ann Womack Dominates the 39th CMA

All the event attendances witnessing the singer's victory, brought home the awards for Album of the Year for "There's More Where That Came From," Single of the Year for "I May Hate Myself in the Morning," and Musical Event of the Year for "Good News, Bad News," a duet with George Strait.
Meanwhile, Australian-born singer Keith Urban only won two, which were Male Vocalist of the Year for a second year in a row and Entertainer of the Year. Other winners at the event, held Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, among others were; Bill Anderson / Jon Randall for Song of the Year for "Whiskey Lullaby," sung by Alison Krauss and Brad Paisley; Gretchen Wilson won Female Vocalist; and Rascal Flatts won Vocal Group of the Year for the third year straight.

Experienced a lot in working music album, his latest one successfully topped the U.S. pop charts Wednesday for its third consecutive, sold 245,000 copies in the week ended July 3. Right after Strait was hip-hop duo Ying Yang Twins, whose "U.S.A.: United States of Atlanta" sold for 201,500 copies.
Halted by Strait's attainment, Coldplay's "X&Y" slipped to number three with 140,000 discs sold and soon followed by "The Emancipation of Mimi" by Mariah Carey, which fell two places to No. 4 with 130,500 copies. The No. 5 spot reigned by Cassidy's "I'm a Hustla," which was sold 93,000 copies, while at No. 6 was Black Eyed Peas' "Monkey Business" with 90,000 copies. Foo Fighters' "In Your Honor" dropped four to No. 7 with 88,000 copies, while No. 8 to 10 in sequence were; Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway," Gwen Stefani's "Love. Angel. Music. Baby.," and Toby Keith's "Honkytonk University."
