Winners of 2008 ALMA Awards in TV Categories
August 18, 2008 11:08:38Winners of the 2008 ALMA Awards, which recognize achievements by Hispanic artists, have been announced Sunday, August 17, less than a month after the full nominees were unveiled. ABC's comedy series "Ugly Betty" was a big winner in the TV categories, winning the awards for directing and best performance by a Latino-led ensemble cast. Its star America Ferrera as well took home one additional award which was for the category of Chevy Entertainer of the Year for her on-screen work as Betty Suarez and her off-screen efforts in encouraging young people to get involved in the political process.
TV actress Eva Longoria had her hands full during the awards show, serving both as its executive producer as well as host. She was seen on Friday, August 15 attending an early celebration to mark the coming of the annual awards show held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif. Her basketball player husband Tony Parker was with her.
2008 ALMA Awards Nominees Announced, the TV Categories
July 22, 2008 04:07:10The annual ALMA Awards will not be held until September later this year, but the list of the nominees is in already. Actress Eva Longoria and actor Cristian de la Fuente were the two stars who lent a helping hand announcing the awards nominees.
The 2008 ALMA Awards nominations were unveiled on Wisteria Lane at the Universal Studios Backlot in Universal City, Calif Monday, July 21. The actual awards event is slated to be aired live on ABC on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 8 P.M. ET.

Big names are lending their voices for Walt Disney Pictures' comedy "South of the Border." The Hollywood Reporter has brought in news stating that a handful of Latino actors consisting of Andy Garcia, Salma Hayek, George Lopez, Cheech Marin, Paul Rodriguez, Placido Domingo, Edward James Olmos, and Eddie Sotelo have all been submitted into the film's voice cast with "Lucky You" star Drew Barrymore leading the lineup.
Also starring Piper Perabo in human role, the flick follows the adventures of a pampered Beverly Hills chihuahua named Chloe as she gets lost during a vacation in Mexico and is in need of assistance from her friends to find way back home. Perabo will play Chloe's owner while the dog's voice will be provided by Barrymore.
