Gene and Terry invite the Brinkleys to join them at their cabin for a weekend getaway. After trying (and failing) to find a way out, Chris and Reagan reluctantly accept the invitation, but Reagan feels bad that Ava was not included. Ava says it's okay, because she'll be heading to Palm Springs this weekend anyway.

Reagan, Chris, and Scott arrive at Gene and Terry's cabin, but Reagan feels bad for abandoning Ava. When Ava doesn't answer her phone, Reagan decides to drive to Palm Springs to make sure she's okay. Meanwhile, Scott immediately hurts his back chopping wood, and Chris realizes that he doesn't really know Gene and Terry all that well.

Reagan arrives in Palm Springs to rescue Ava from a weekend of loneliness, only to discover that Ava is actually hanging out with some friends from her yoga class. Reagan is shocked to discover that Ava has friends she didn't know about, and that Ava refers to Reagan as her "mom friend." Her jealousy gets the best of her and Reagan decides to skip the cabin and stay the night in Palm Springs with Ava.

Back at the cabin, Chris tries to get to know Gene and Terry, but a conversation about Gene's job quickly gets Gene in hot water. Terry reveals some deep-seeded jealousy issues and Gene and Terry erupt in a huge argument, which Chris is now stuck in the middle of. Scott offers no help, because he's taken a bunch of Gene's expired prescription pain pills to cope with his aching back. It looks like Chris is flying solo on this one.

Reagan quickly begins to realize that Ava has a life without her, and it fuels her jealousy. She sets out to prove that she can hang with Ava's "cool friends." Reagan gets cracked out on energy drinks and embarrasses herself on the dance floor. Ava confronts Reagan about her behavior. After a squabble, Reagan decides to head back to the cabin.

Chris consults a heavily sedated Scott, who suggests that Chris should tell Gene and Terry something about himself so that he can better relate to them. Chris tells Gene and Terry that he battled with jealousy issues over Reagan's previous boyfriend, but that he's happy to have Reagan now. It works, and Gene and Terry make amends.

The following morning, Gene and Terry's Funlympics day begins! Reagan tells Chris about her evening in Palm Springs and how she misses being Ava's fun friend. Reagan is not excited to participate in the day's events, but eventually she decides to just live in the now and enjoy the present. The day turns out to be more fun than they expected.

Reagan is now fully immersed in the Funlympics festivities. While she's competing in a smiling competition, Ava arrives to rescue her. Reagan explains that she doesn't need rescuing, and Ava tells her that, while she might like hanging out with her yoga friends, Reagan is her best friend. She also brings a bottle of vodka, much to the delight of Chris and Scott.

Later, at the Funlympics award ceremony, Reagan and Chris realize that Gene and Terry host a Funlympics every single weekend. An awkward Funlympics-themed rap song brings them back to reality, and they decide to never come back to Gene and Terry's cabin again.
