In the Academy Award-nominated performance, Hanks goes all out to make the character believable by growing his hair and beard plus losing fifty pounds. Hanks also gives a mesmerizing and fulfilling performance from the time Noland discovers how to make fire to the believable relationship he builds with a volleyball 'friend' he named Wilson.
