Playing an optimistic man, Tom Hanks glues viewers to the screen for 143 minutes with his Chuck Noland who strives to survive in an uninhabited island after his plane crashes. In the Academy Award-nominated performance, Hanks goes all out to make the character believable by growing his hair and beard plus losing fifty pounds. Hanks also gives a mesmerizing and fulfilling performance from the time Noland discovers how to make fire to the believable relationship he builds with a volleyball 'friend' he named Wilson.
