AceShowbiz - Elton John played to a crowd of 6,000 fans at the ancient site of Chichen Itza in Mexico on Saturday, April 3, just days after three workers were injured in a stage collapse at the venue. The "Rocket Man" hitmaker performed a 90-minute set at the Mayan Temple of Kukulkan following an accident on Wednesday, March 31 which resulted in the hospitalization of one stagehand, who sustained serious leg injuries.
Two others were also hurt when the 80-meter (262-foot) metal tower came crashing down. Mayan leaders suggested the mishap was the work of gods angry with John for failing to seek permission to hold a concert at the sacred site.
Yucatan state public works secretary Francisco Torres told Mexico's Reforma newspaper, "With each concert, in the early morning, a ritual is performed to ask for permission, and this time it was not done."
