Sometimes I Get Unfortunate With Ladies, Sting Says
Celebrity

Recalling his embarrassing experience which ended him up into the sea while dating girlfriend, the 'My Funny Valentine' singer admits that he hasn't always been successful with girls.

AceShowbiz - Sting hasn't always been successful with the ladies - he's still cringing over one first date which ended when he drove into the sea. The former "The Police" singer was trying to impress a girlfriend by taking her to a popular spot for lovers in Tynemouth, north-east England.

But the romantic evening soon soured when Sting accidentally drove his car into the ocean, forcing him to beg his dad to come and help him retrieve the vehicle. And his date was so unimpressed, he never saw her again.

He says, "One famous night I had a new girlfriend, I had a lovely Mini (car). I think I changed every part of that Mini that I could, it had a fiberglass front and I drove her in the moonlight down this hill. I thought I was James Bond or something and I hit the bottom of the hill and hit the North Sea, it was a high tide."

"Within seconds we were in four feet of water and she wasn't very impressed with this - so in the end we actually ended up having to call my father up the road. I said, 'Dad, my car's in the sea.' He said, 'Well, what do you want me to do about it?' "

"I said, 'Would you come down and tow me out?' So he came down in his milk van with a tow rope and he just handed me the rope and didn't help me. He sat with the girlfriend and had a cigarette and I towed my car out here and she never saw me again."
