AceShowbiz - Music legend Sting has stated that the recent allegations against Sean "P. Diddy" Combs have no impact on his classic song "Every Breath You Take." The 73-year-old musician clarified, "It doesn't taint the song at all for me. It's still my song."
Diddy sampled "Every Breath You Take" in his 1997 hit "I'll Be Missing You," which featured Faith Evans and 112 as a tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G.. However, Sting insisted the song remained untarnished despite the hip-hop artist's arrest and subsequent charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
Sting weighed in on Diddy's legal woes, "I don't know what went on [with Diddy]," but he explained why he allowed Diddy to use part of his song, "I never object because I always learn something about the song that I hadn't known or anticipated."
Sting expressed that "songs are living organisms" and believes in the power of music to connect generations. He remains confident that "Every Breath You Take" will endure as his own creation, regardless of any external controversies.
Combs pleaded not guilty following his September arrest. He has been in jail since then and has filed a new motion for bail, which is pending review.
