AceShowbiz - Stephen Colbert returned to his signature portrayal of Eric Trump during the final segment of The Late Show on Tuesday, reminding viewers that he is "really an actor."
During his monologue, Colbert humorously targeted the president’s son, Eric Trump, after President Trump made a notable remark about him at the Friends of Ireland luncheon celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.
Colbert explained, "Trump celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with the annual Friends of Ireland luncheon, and when he talked about his golf course in Ireland, his son Eric caught a stray."
The show then aired a clip of President Trump discussing the Irish Open, which was scheduled to take place at one of his golf properties. Trump stated he had "nothing to do" with the event’s organization because Eric runs day-to-day operations of the Trump Organization.
In the clip, Trump said, "I love Ireland. In fact, we're going to have the Irish Open at a property that happens to be owned by yours truly. But I have nothing to do with it. I own it, but I don't even like to talk to my son."
Cutting back to the studio, Colbert mimicked Eric Trump by pulling his upper lip over his teeth, a trademark gesture he uses for this impression. He then spoke in a faltering voice, saying, "Hello, Dad? Dad? Dad, it's Eric again. I just want to let you know the golf course is going great, but I did get caught in a sand trap. And the more I move, the more I sink. Please call me back. Again, this is Eric. E-R-I-C."
The audience responded with enthusiastic applause, leading Colbert to declare, "I'm primarily an actor. I'm really an actor."
This is not the first time Colbert has taken aim at Eric Trump with this impression. Earlier in 2024, he revived the bit after President Trump neglected to mention Eric during his early victory speech following the South Carolina primary.
At that time, Colbert described his impression as "really accurate," calling it "cruel, but accurate."
Fans of The Late Show have expressed their fondness for the Eric Trump impression, with one viewer commenting on YouTube that "The Eric impressions might be the thing I miss about this show when it's gone."
