AceShowbiz - Kacey Musgraves is set to return to the iconic Coachella Festival for the second weekend of the event, marking her first appearance there since 2019. The announcement came when the festival unveiled its lineup poster for the upcoming weekend.
This slot mirrors the last-minute addition of Jack White to the same stage during the festival’s first weekend, signaling a special moment for fans who have eagerly awaited Musgraves’ return to the desert music celebration.
On the same day, Musgraves shared a cryptic Instagram post captioned “Somewhere on the way to ? ????????? ?,” which featured a flipbook-style image of a bull running along a highway retaining wall. The sequence concluded with the name of her upcoming seventh studio album, subtly teasing what’s next for the country-pop star.
Musgraves is preparing to follow up her 2024 album Deeper Well with this new project, which has already yielded the single “Dry Spell.” The forthcoming album boasts songwriting contributions from notable collaborators including Luke Laird, Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, and Brandy Clark. Additionally, it features musical partnerships with legends such as Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, and Billy Strings.
In a statement announcing the new record, Musgraves reflected on the creative process, explaining, “The bulk of this record was made during the longest single period of my life. I found that for the first time, it actually felt incredible being alone and existing in a space not defined by anyone else.” She elaborated on her fascination with the idea of liminal space—both geographically and emotionally—highlighting how people often rush through transitional phases without fully experiencing them.
Alongside her Coachella announcement, Musgraves also engaged with current political and cultural discourse by posting a satirical AI-generated image. This artwork parodied a controversial photo originally posted by former President Donald Trump, which depicted him as a Christ-like healer. In Musgraves’ version, country music icon Dolly Parton replaced the divine figure, portrayed healing Musgraves herself as the patient.
The original image by Trump drew widespread criticism for its blasphemous nature, especially given its timing alongside Trump’s harsh attacks on Pope Leo XIV. Describing the pope as a “loser from the left” and “WEAK on Crime,” Trump also questioned the legitimacy of the first American-born pope’s election, suggesting it was a political move tailored to counter him.
Jack White, who was also recently added to Coachella’s lineup, publicly condemned Trump’s imagery as “blasphemy,” labeling the former president a “deranged grifter.” This response added to the ongoing discourse surrounding the controversial image and Trump’s rhetoric.
