AceShowbiz - The Thing That Hurts is currently in production in France, featuring a star-studded cast including Alfre Woodard, J.K. Simmons, Jason Schwartzman, André Holland, Noémie Merlant, Golshifteh Farahani, Teddie Allen, and Felicity Jones.
The film is a collaboration between writer-director Arnaud Desplechin and writer Kamen Velkovsky, with Wes Anderson serving as executive producer. Financing is provided by Silver Screen Global, while production is managed by 3SIX9 Studios, CG Cinema, Alaz Film, and Wrong Men. International sales are handled by Gravel Lake Entertainment, and Films du Losange is responsible for French distribution.
The story follows a group of patients who gather in Paris after the death of their acclaimed American psychoanalyst. What starts as a memorial quickly transforms into a deeply personal exploration as unexpected connections develop and hidden truths come to light, revealing the profound impact their therapist had on each of their lives.
Filming began on April 7 and is taking place on location in Brussels and Paris. Desplechin is known for his acclaimed films such as My Golden Days, which earned him the César Award for Best Director, as well as Kings and Queen, A Christmas Tale, and Esther Khan. His latest film, Two Pianos, starring Charlotte Rampling, premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival. Desplechin has also been a regular presence at the Cannes Film Festival, having competed nine times.
