Scream 8 begins with new writers from 'Poker Face' taking over. Can they revive the iconic horror franchise after a divisive sequel?
- April 1, 2026
AceShowbiz - Fans of horror and thriller genres have reason to be cautiously optimistic as Scream 8 officially begins development. Following a divisive reception to Scream 7, the next installment is moving forward with fresh creative leadership. According to a new report, Spyglass Media Group has brought on sisters Lilla and Nora Zuckerman to write the upcoming chapter in the slasher series.
The Zuckerman Sisters are notable for their work as showrunners and writers on the critically acclaimed murder mystery series Poker Face, created by Rian Johnson. The show featured a compelling narrative style and a standout performance by Natasha Lyonne. Beyond Poker Face, the Zuckermans have contributed to other well-known productions such as Suits, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Fringe.
The Scream franchise itself has a storied history that began in 1996 with the original film directed by Wes Craven. That film introduced audiences to Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell. The series continued with follow-ups that varied in tone from the college-set Scream 2 to the Hollywood satire of Scream 3, and the well-received Scream 4. After Craven’s passing, the franchise was revived with the 2022 “requel” Scream, and later expanded with Scream 6.
Despite Scream 7 stirring controversy—especially with the unexpected firing of Melissa Barrera and the departure of co-star Jenna Ortega, as well as director Christopher Landon—the film achieved significant box office success.
Among the few positives from Scream 7 was the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. Other returning cast members who survived the previous film’s killing spree include Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers; Isabel May as Sidney’s teenage daughter Tatum Evans; Joel McHale as Mark Evans, Sidney’s husband; and the Meeks-Martin twins, played by Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Additionally, Roger Jackson continues to provide the iconic voice of Ghostface.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether Neve Campbell will reprise her role in Scream 8. As the project is still in early development, details about the cast and plot are scarce.
