Honored alongside notable figures such as Kerry Washington, Chase Infiniti, and the women behind Sinners, Richardson Jackson emphasized the importance of unwavering dedication and awareness in pursuing success.

During her remarks, LaTanya Richardson Jackson urged attendees to "work hard," emphasizing that effort is foundational. She stressed the need to understand one’s craft deeply and to boldly create space for the unimaginable. She also encouraged embracing bravery in these moments, adding a profound thought: “Learn the language of the invisible so that your presence always speaks.” She concluded her message with a call to action for continuous vigilance and activism: “Wake up, stay woke, because we who believe in freedom will not rest until it comes.”

The event recognized Chase Infiniti as a rising star. In her acceptance, Chase Infiniti expressed gratitude for the support and mentorship of Black women in her early career, highlighting the impact of acclaimed actresses Regina Hall and Ruth Negga.

Chase Infiniti shared, “From the very start of my casting, which lasted over six months, I was supported by Regina Hall, who gave me advice and encouraged me to find my own voice for the role of Willa.” She also reflected on her first set experience with Ruth Negga on the show Presumed Innocent, describing Negga as a constant source of guidance and encouragement. Chase Infiniti acknowledged how the generosity and mentorship of these Black women have shaped her burgeoning career and expressed heartfelt gratitude for being welcomed into the community.

The luncheon also honored costume designer Ruth E. Carter with a special tribute to the women of Sinners.

Ruth E. Carter reflected on her collaborative spirit and the collective effort behind their work, stating, “I always said I never wanted to be alone in the celebration because it does take a collaboration to make this all possible.” She noted her past Oscar nominations for Malcolm X and Amistad where she was recognized individually, contrasting that with the current 16 Oscar nominations shared among the women of Sinners. Ruth E. Carter expressed pride in shepherding this collective recognition.

Kerry Washington was also honored during the event. In her acceptance speech, Kerry Washington reflected on the emotions she felt when first recognized at the same event in 2012. She recalled feeling nervous and burdened by the pressure to represent the Black community perfectly, fearing she might not be the right choice.

However, Kerry Washington shared how the overwhelming love and support she experienced that day freed her spirit. She spoke about the absence of competition and jealousy in the room, emphasizing the community’s collective hope for her success. She acknowledged that while others might have doubted or even criticized her privately, the energy was rooted in genuine encouragement and generosity.

Highlighting her commitment to uplifting others, Kerry Washington discussed her production company, Simpson Street, which she named after the Bronx street where her mother grew up. The company, established a decade ago, focuses on creating and protecting creative opportunities for Black talent.
