AceShowbiz - Julia Louis-Dreyfus has landed a prominent new role, marking her first major television series since the conclusion of Veep. The acclaimed actress and comedian will headline a limited series adaptation for Apple TV+, based on “The Nanny Squatter,” a New York Magazine article written by Bindu Bansinath.
The upcoming miniseries pairs Julia Louis-Dreyfus with fellow comedic talent Cecily Strong, with the show reportedly close to receiving a greenlight from Apple TV. Sources indicate the project is expected to secure a full series order soon.
The series centers on a couple whose lives unravel when they allow a caregiver into their home, only to face escalating boundary violations and an intense power struggle. This tension between the family and the caregiver forms the core conflict.
Both Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Cecily Strong will serve as executive producers on the project, alongside Mary Bronstein, who is attached as showrunner. Bronstein is also anticipated to write, direct, and executive produce the series. Additionally, Scoop Wasserstein will executive produce through New York Magazine, with Apple TV acting as the series’ producer.
This marks a significant return to television for Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who, while not starring in a major series since Veep, has remained active in entertainment. Her recent work includes voicing Boaracle in Fox’s animated sitcom Housebroken, and an upcoming film role as the Shetland sheep Lily in the mystery comedy The Sheep Detectives.
Cecily Strong brings extensive comedic experience to the series as well. A longtime cast member of Saturday Night Live from 2012 to 2021, she earned two Emmy nominations during her tenure. Strong is also familiar with Apple TV productions, having starred in the musical comedy Schmigadoon, which concluded after its second season.
With both leads being seasoned comedians and producers, the project is positioned for critical attention. The show’s imminent approval by Apple TV suggests filming could commence soon.
