AceShowbiz - Erin Doherty captured her first Golden Globe on Sunday night, securing the award for female actor in a supporting role on television for her performance in Adolescence. During her acceptance speech, she surprised viewers with an unfiltered expression, including an f-bomb and an s-bomb, which seemed to slip past CBS censors.
“I made a promise to my mom I wouldn’t swear, but what the fuck? Holy shit! Sorry mom,” she exclaimed, as the network bleeped her remarks. Doherty went on to dedicate her award to therapists, reflecting on her role in Adolescence.
“I didn’t want to assume but I feel like we all know therapists,” she stated. “Life can be tough. Mental health is everything. Thank you to therapists and it was an honor to play one.”
Previously, Doherty won the 2025 Emmy for outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie and recently secured a Critics Choice Award for best supporting actress in a limited series or movie made for television. This past Sunday, she celebrated alongside fellow winners, including Stephen Graham (best actor in a limited series) and Owen Cooper (supporting actor).
In the series, Doherty portrays Briony Ariston and is also recognized at the 2026 SAG-AFTRA Actor Awards for outstanding performance by a female actor in a television movie or limited series. She previously received the Actor Award, known as the SAG Award, as part of the ensemble cast of The Crown in both 2020 and 2021.
Competing for the award alongside Doherty were Aimee Lou Wood (The White Lotus), Carrie Coon (The White Lotus), Parker Posey (The White Lotus), Catherine O’Hara (The Studio), and Hannah Einbinder (Hacks).
Adolescence has garnered critical acclaim, becoming a favorite during awards season. At the Emmys, it not only honored Doherty but also won for best limited series, best actor (Stephen Graham), and best supporting actor (Owen Cooper).
This year, Adolescence received five Golden Globe nominations, showcasing its impact in the television landscape. In addition to the victories by Cooper and Doherty, the series was nominated for best performance by a male actor in a limited series, anthology series, or a motion picture made for television (Stephen Graham), further solidifying its prominence.
