AceShowbiz - Zack Snyder offered a distinct, ambitious vision for the live-action Justice League and the broader DC Extended Universe. While his full narrative wasn't entirely realized, several entries delivered compelling, epic storytelling. However, many characters within the "Snyderverse" were left with unfinished arcs, or their stories were drastically altered, often not for the better. Now, with James Gunn's new DC Universe firmly taking shape, especially looking ahead to 2025's Superman, the stage is set for a fresh start. This presents a prime opportunity to revisit and redeem several heroes and villains from Zack Snyder's iteration, reimagining their journeys with new actors and narratives.
Ray Fisher's Cyborg was initially envisioned as the emotional core of the Justice League. Unfortunately, his pivotal role in the 2017 theatrical cut, directed by Joss Whedon, was severely reduced and sidelined due to significant studio interference and various behind-the-scenes challenges. Nevertheless, Victor Stone's poignant story of grief, identity, and reluctant heroism truly shined when audiences finally saw his intended arc in 2021's Zack Snyder's Justice League, widely known as "The Snyder Cut." A potential DCU Cyborg revival could delve deeper into Victor's humanity and his struggle with his cybernetic form. Many fans would appreciate seeing Cyborg return to his roots as a Teen Titan, a role he has recently reclaimed in the comics, despite the DCEU initially portraying him as a Justice League member, a shift that began with DC's 2011 New 52 reboot.
While Ezra Miller's portrayal of Barry Allen, the Flash, certainly contained moments of genuine charm and emotional depth, much of the character's potential was unfortunately overshadowed by significant real-life controversies surrounding the actor. Despite the ambition of The Flash solo movie, its impact was undeniably diminished by these external factors. For James Gunn's DCU, a new iteration of The Flash offers a chance to reset the character's public perception and narrative trajectory. A fresh take could fully explore Barry Allen's scientific brilliance, his unwavering optimism, and his crucial role as a beacon of hope within the broader superhero community, free from past distractions. This would allow audiences to connect with the Scarlet Speedster purely on the merits of his heroic journey.
