AceShowbiz - Martha Stewart took a swipe at Blue Origin flight. She reminded everyone that she had her own weightless adventure long before Katy Perry and Gayle King flaunted their zero-gravity experience.
On Thursday, April 17, the 83-year-old lifestyle icon shared a throwback video of herself flipping through the air aboard a specially-modified Boeing 727 aircraft called G-Force One. The diss came in the form of quote from Perry's 2010 hit song "Firework," read, "Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind?"
Stewart's Instagram caption added a sly nod to her achievement, "In case you spaced out in 2007, Martha has always been ahead of her time 🌟."
Commenters quickly picked up on the playful shade, with responses like, "The drag we needed!" and "Martha. Goddess of dinner parties and memes."
Katy Perry's recent spaceflight, sponsored by Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin, took place on Monday, April 14, and included other notable figures like journalist Gayle King, Jeff Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sánchez, astronaut Amanda Nguyen, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.
The mission, representing Blue Origin's first all-female flight crew, lasted a brief 11 minutes, and has since faced heavy criticism.
Many have questioned the significance of such celebrity space trips. Olivia Munn voiced her concern, saying, "Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they going to do up there that has made it better for us down here?" Fast food chain Wendy's also joined the fray with shady comments about Perry like, "Can we send her back."
Amy Schumer, Olivia Wilde, Emily Ratajkowski were not too impressed either by the Blue Origin space tourism.
While Perry has remained largely silent amid the backlash, some of her space crew members have defended the mission. Gayle King emphasized the positive impact it had on young women while Lauren Sánchez invited critics to visit Blue Origin and witness the dedication of its employees.
Sanchez's pal Jessica Alba urged people to direct their energy to criticizing Donald Trump instead of dwelling on the space flight.
Through her nostalgic post, Martha Stewart is adding her voice to the ongoing conversation about the growing trend of space tourism.
