AceShowbiz - Jeff Ross, known affectionately as the "Roast Master General," landed in hospital after indulging in what should have been an innocent post-performance treat. It was supposed to be a celebratory event, but he was soon rushed to hospital due to a severe reaction.
Before the hospital visit, the comedian and his band were celebrating the successful opening night of his one-man show, "Take a Banana for the Ride", in Mill Valley, California on Sunday, April 6.
Ross shared the surprising turn of events on Instagram, posting a series of photos from his hospital bed, as well as a snapshot of the culinary culprit: burrata ice cream. "ROAST ME. TONIGHT'S SHOW NEAR SAN FRANCISCO MUST GO ON!" he wrote, referencing his resolve to continue performing despite the setback.
He recounted the events leading to his hospital visit, saying, "Afterwards, me and the band celebrated with some burrata ice cream at a restaurant down the street courtesy of the nice owner. It was delicious. Seriously yummy."
However, what followed was anything but delightful. Ross's lips began to swell, leading to his first-ever allergic reaction and an overnight stay at MarinHealth Medical Center.
The comedian took the ordeal in stride, joking, "Thank you to the overnight shift at MarinHealth Medical Center for only roasting me a lightly," before assuring his fans that he was recovering and prepared to perform that evening despite looking like "MICKEY ROURKE at the end of The Wrestler."
Ross' Instagram post received a flood of supportive and humorous comments from celebrity friends, including NSYNC alum Joey Fatone, who remarked, "Sloth love chunk… and I can always be your chunk! Speedy recovery my brother," and Kelly Rizzo, widow of the late Bob Saget, who wrote, "Oh no! How dare burrata do that to you!?!? Hope you're better already! Love you."
This latest escapade adds to Ross's busy schedule over the past year, where he has appeared in multiple roasts, including "The Roast of Tom Brady and "Torching 2024: A Roast of the Year".
Ross made headlines during the Tom Brady roast special in May 2024 with a quip about the NFL alum and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft that prompted a stern response from Brady himself.
No stranger to pushing boundaries and handling unforeseen events with humor, Jeff Ross exemplifies the "show must go on" spirit. His resilience and commitment to comedy continue to endear him to fans around the world.
And so, despite an unplanned hospital visit, Ross is back on stage in Mill Valley, ready to deliver more laughs and roast-worthy moments.
